Guests gather with microbrews each night around a fire pit at Sparrows Lodge. There are no phones or TVs in the rooms – this is where you want to come to unwind and remember what it’s like to kick through the grass in the great outdoors, even if these great outdoors are conveniently located just a few minutes’ walk from downtown Palm Springs. MGM actor Don Castle built the ranch in 1951, and it became one of the original Hollywood retreats (Bewitched actress Elizabeth Montgomery got married in the barn). Sparrow Lodge is a quiet place where people know your name and serenity prevails by the saltwater pool.

My wife and I stayed at Sparrows Lodge in Palm Springs for her birthday on March 17 and 18th, and we loved this small, intimate boutique hotel. The Lodge was originally built as a barn in 1952, and it still maintains its vintage, rustic charm, while at the same time feeling like an exclusive five star resort. We stayed in a poolside room, which is what I’d recommend. The room was spacious, with a beautiful bathroom and shower, very comfortable queen size bed, and a private patio with wooden fan back chairs and a hammock. And even though it was poolside, it’s so quiet that we never heard a sound from anyone else hanging out by the pool. All the poolside rooms also have two shaded outdoor chaise lounges right outside the room, should you want shade or just more privacy. The pool itself is small but very nice, and seemed to be the perfect temperature. Although it was only around eighty degrees the sun was hot, and I therefore took many dips throughout the day! We had dinner at Sparrows Lodge on the night of my wife’s actual birthday. The food was excellent, and the outdoor patio setting very romantic. But maybe the best thing about this experience was the incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff at Sparrows, meaning the general manager Alex, Carolina, Emily and Abby! It’s a very informal vibe with the hotel staff, almost like you’re staying at their private home, and it seems like everyone does everything. For example, Abby was our waitress for dinner, and then later that night when I realized that I inadvertently put in the wrong code for our room safe, deprogramming it so that I couldn’t open it, she came to our room and rectified the safe issue in about two minutes! Big kudos to Alex and his team of happy warriors at Sparrows Lodge for making a great vacation all that much better!

Sparrows Lodge is a downtown Palm Springs property where I was welcomed by a hand painted sign adorned with 2 sparrows. My Garden room, located in the garden section of the facility was a take on a cottage aesthetic and featured a private patio. The chamber gave way to an atmosphere of relaxation and simplicity but I could have brought a steed as my room was outfitted with a horse trough as a bath. The Barn Kitchen is an open-air communal seating restaurant in a poolside setting that whips up a delightful breakfast. Cooking tends towards California simple..........with fresh salads, cauliflower steak with sauce vierge and more........but my favorite was avocado toast at lunch. So, if your looking for a property that maintains it's rustic yet modern feel................then try the.............Sparrows Lodge..........feels like a cottage camp grounds.

We loved Sparrow’s Lodge. No TVs which was great, the place is so relaxing. Nice mellow music all day, beautiful grounds, nice staff. The morning breakfast was substantial. Enjoyed chatting with other guests around the fire pit while making s’mores. We had dinner outside at the Barn Kitchen which we really enjoyed. Short drive to downtown. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that my husband did not like the room. It is rustic but has a very comfortable bed and the rain shower has fantastic pressure. Lighting is not great in the bathroom, toilet is in a separate closet which was like a cell. Floors are concrete and a bit cold. Overall, I would highly recommend and would definitely return.

This was our sixth stay with the Sparrows Lodge. Each time is special in its own way, and we always love it. Last weekend was for a planned surprise getaway for my husband’s birthday. It rained and was too cool for the pool, but we very much enjoyed the jacuzzi, the delicious buffet breakfast, and our cozy and comfortable room from which we could hear the music of the waterfall just outside our door. The Lodge had upgraded since we were last there, and it seems they managed to fulfill every item on our “wish list” for optimization. Small things do make a difference: a fluffy rug under the bed, a lightweight but warm quilt, the MOST comfortable bed, a perfect leather reading chair with lamp, an umbrella (!), a mini-SMEG with sparkling waters inside, and many other thoughtful touches. The rooms have been painted white now, which has brightened and added warmth. We basically camped out in our room for the weekend — read, a lot, napped, enjoyed the luxurious waterfall shower, and got back to centering and replenishing ourselves in this tranquil setting. On our last morning we enjoyed our breakfast in a lovely common room on the property which has the ultimate in comfy couches and a fireplace. Thank you, dear Sparrows Lodge, for all of your kindness during our stay. Everyone was so gracious and lovely. We will definitely be back!
