Morgan's Rock in Playa Ocotal, Nicaragua
A suspension bridge cuts 150 feet through thick rainforest vegetation filled with howler monkeys and three-toed sloths to connect Morgan's Rock to the outside world. Built on cliffs overlooking a private cove, bungalows in this nature-centric conclave are spacious and rustically sumptuous. Managua-based Simplemente Madera constructed certified-sustainable furniture from local hardwood, and native artist Augusto Silva honors Tunu culture in his colorful paintings. Relish an early morning yoga session at a beachfront pavilion and a solar-powered hot shower to end the day.
Sip a cup of coffee on your balcony surrounded by the creature calls of the rainforest. Spot a florescent parakeet darting through the canopy. Go for a quiet hike or raise your adrenaline by kayaking the estuary. Visit the organic farm and help harvest your dinner's ingredients. Learn to make tortillas with the resident cook. Watch a stunning sunset from a cliffside vantage point.

Reviews for Morgan's Rock
We spent four days in an ocean view bungalow and absolutely loved it! Going to sleep with the sound of waves crashing was so relaxing and waking up to monkeys in the trees was fabulous. The beach huts were great too!

We just visited with friends for the day and this place is fabulous. The beaches are quiet and pristine, it also has a pool area to lounge by if the beach isnt for you. The property is enormous and we were taken thru one of bungalows they are famous for, and the views and rooms were first class. To top it off the food and service we experienced for the day was.top notch. Highly reccomend this spot!

Morgans Rock was an ideal place to stay to complete my tour of Nicaragua. The detached cabins are very comfortable and secluded with interesting design features and the luxury of patio swing beds and private plunge pool. Mine was a forest view, which I preferred as it seemed cooler also not far from the restaurant, pool and beach which made it easier to pop back to the room for anything I needed. Some of the cabins might have had a sea view but were further to go. The food was good (but not memorable) and the menu changed half way through my 5 day stay. Although I prefer a modest breakfast, the full size options looked amazing. The food was on the expensive side, especially as one is 'captive' at the hotel in its huge estate but I guess that was to be expected. Having done several excursions from bases in Nicaragua, I also felt the Morgans Rock activities were overpriced and as someone who has regular massage in a private spa club, the massage fees were phenomenal. The staff were all great, very welcoming and obviously like working there - it would be difficult to single out any one person. A bit of a breather on arrival before talking money would be appreciated, as I'd hardly finished my welcome drink before fees and charges were brought up. Basically very little comes free - just the provision of drinking water and use of bicycles and surf boards. The beach is lovely with lots of shade, sun beds, hammocks etc all well spaced from each other and a small beach bar. For me it didn't compete with equivalent graded beach hotels either in Latin America or other parts of the world and there is much that could be improved but I enjoyed my stay there.

Morgan's Rock is a place onto itself just south of the town of San Juan del Sur. It is an isolated resort with beautiful rooms that look out onto the Pacific Ocean, a restaurant that serves wonderful dinners, and a beach that you can walk all day and see few people. It is a great escape from the everyday hotel.

Overpriced and unhealthy and mediocre food options. Staff was great. I stayed at Aqua resort a few years back and it has better beach, free yoga and rooms at half the price. Would go back to Aqua but not Morgan's.
