Morgan's Rock in Playa Ocotal, Nicaragua

A suspension bridge cuts 150 feet through thick rainforest vegetation filled with howler monkeys and three-toed sloths to connect Morgan's Rock to the outside world. Built on cliffs overlooking a private cove, bungalows in this nature-centric conclave are spacious and rustically sumptuous. Managua-based Simplemente Madera constructed certified-sustainable furniture from local hardwood, and native artist Augusto Silva honors Tunu culture in his colorful paintings. Relish an early morning yoga session at a beachfront pavilion and a solar-powered hot shower to end the day.

Sip a cup of coffee on your balcony surrounded by the creature calls of the rainforest. Spot a florescent parakeet darting through the canopy. Go for a quiet hike or raise your adrenaline by kayaking the estuary. Visit the organic farm and help harvest your dinner's ingredients. Learn to make tortillas with the resident cook. Watch a stunning sunset from a cliffside vantage point.

Morgans Rock exceeded our expectations. We were in bungalow #15, the farthest from the lobby and found the hike up to it well worth the view and the privacy. The plunge pool was lovely and a necessity on hot days to cool us down plus the view from it was amazing! The room was spacious and clean. Loved the day bed on the deck. Food was very good and all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. A wonderful, romantic getaway!

Our accommodation at Morgan's Rock was remarkable - like being in a 5 star tree house. We couldn't quite believe the position right above the beach - it was such an amazing treat to be able to lie in bed and watch and listen to the ocean - a truly outside-inside experience (because of having bug screens rather than glass). We lovely the quirky touches and having our own, private outside area was amazing. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the rather lacklustre response to it being my "special" birthday - my husband had hoped the hotel might come us with some special options but they didn't really materialise. We still had a stunning time though - in that setting it's hard not to.

We visited their restaurant for lunch. Food was ok but drinks are just terrible. For $12, I would have expected a little bit better drink. $5 drink I ordered at other restaurant tasted 10 times better. I ordered Pina Colada and milk shake. Both tasted like a water, with too much ice in them. For Pina Colada, I even asked the waiter I ordered non alcoholic by mistake because it literally tasted like water. Food was good tho. I hope they can improve the quality of their drinks.

My husband and I travel to Nicaragua every January to celebrate my birthday. We like to venture out to a different place each time as a way to visit the vast beauty of this country. We did some research online and after learning about this resort, I knew it would be a special place for us. So we set sail and made our way to Morgan's Rock. Ok, we didn't set sail but instead we drove through San Juan del Sure and into the rustic jungle private reserve. Right away we knew we were on our way to a forest Sanctuary. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a warm staff who offered us coconut water and then swept us away to our ocean view bundalow. The ocean view was magnificent and the rooms designed so thoughtfully to immerse with nature that I immediately felt drawn to the magic of Morgan's Rock. We enjoyed a couples spa at Paslama. The spa was so tranquil it was like walking into a private zen den. Both ladies were very knowledgeable and by the end of our treat, we were relaxed and restored. The one the most unique experiences we had was the breakfast at the farm. Our guides drove us through their private reserve where we learned about the shrimp, hens, ducks, and cows they raise. We learned how to milk a cow and how they make their cheese. We also enjoyed making our hand-made tortillas on a rustic wood burning stove and then had a wonderful traditional Nica breakfast on the farm. It was great to learn that about 60% of the food served at Morgan's Rock comes from this farm. This tour is highly recommended for those who enjoy a farm to table experience! We recommend enjoying a kayak at the mangrove estuary found along side the beach. We enjoyed a leisure afternoon moving through this marine gem where we saw 2 egrets, other species of birds, beautiful butterflies, fish, frogs and seashells. This is a paradise for the nature lover! We had the best dinning experience. Their culinary, presentation and service were exceptional, thank you Chef Danis! Also, all the Servers were consistently thoughtful, we were so pleased at how well cared for we felt. One of my best experiences was being surprised by my Husband and Staff with a private torch-lit dinning and personal server, on the beach to celebrate my birthday. This was so incredibly special, a moment in time I will never forget. So thankful to Juan, Rigoberto, Gabriela, Breyner, Vanessa, Yader and all the Servers staff members and Manager Andrea for their gracious attention to detail and for their hospitality. We will surely come again soon! Most Thankful, Jovanna & Marty

My husband and I enjoyed a five day honeymoon at Morgan's Rock in November 2017. We stayed in a bungalow facing the ocean, and it was absolutely perfect. The weather, the view, the food, the activities, and the staff were all amazing! We loved the attention to detail in our room (eco friendly mango soap, and lime water and citronella candles delivered in the evenings!) We recommend the monkey/sloth tour, horseback riding on the beach, and the full day tour of Nicaragua off-site. The meals served at the restaurant were absolutely fantastic, with fresh local ingredients! Their dinners are as good as any white tablecloth restaurant in a major U.S. city. We became friends with many of the staff members and still send photos and messages to keep in touch. Morgan's Rock is an adventure you will never forget!
