Morgan's Rock in Playa Ocotal, Nicaragua

A suspension bridge cuts 150 feet through thick rainforest vegetation filled with howler monkeys and three-toed sloths to connect Morgan's Rock to the outside world. Built on cliffs overlooking a private cove, bungalows in this nature-centric conclave are spacious and rustically sumptuous. Managua-based Simplemente Madera constructed certified-sustainable furniture from local hardwood, and native artist Augusto Silva honors Tunu culture in his colorful paintings. Relish an early morning yoga session at a beachfront pavilion and a solar-powered hot shower to end the day.

Sip a cup of coffee on your balcony surrounded by the creature calls of the rainforest. Spot a florescent parakeet darting through the canopy. Go for a quiet hike or raise your adrenaline by kayaking the estuary. Visit the organic farm and help harvest your dinner's ingredients. Learn to make tortillas with the resident cook. Watch a stunning sunset from a cliffside vantage point.

My husband, Justin, and I had this hotel almost entirely to ourselves and it was absolutely divine! We are still in awe of our room that was luxurious in the most rustic and adventurous way possible. Sheer perfection! The food is insanely good. We pre-purchased a meal plan and would recommend that to anyone who wants to eat 3 big, delicious, healthy, fresh meals per day. We are total foodies and this food was right up there with the best restaurants we've visited in the US. My favorites were the breakfast burritos and the gazpacho, but it was all incredible. Staff were so attentive as well. It is definitely an adventure destination, so there are stairs to climb and lot's of bugs outdoors, but the room even had natural bug repellant for us to use, clean drinking water and reusable bottles... perfect! We will be back and we want to bring friends. End of November was nearly empty - a perfect time to go with a (respectful) group. The beach was gorgeous as well, we didn't have hot enough weather for me to swim (I'm always cold, so I need it very hot for that!), but the staff assured me that the waters are safe, so I'll try that next time. Killer sunsets, monkeys, ocean views, waves crashing. Very romantic! My only "complaint" was that the tours were very expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for and the reason for the prices is clear. Thank you, Morgan's Rock!!!

This place was everything we were looking for. My wife and I just wanted to get away for the weekend and have a quite couple of days to relax and read a book in a hammock. This place really hit the spot.

We did 9 days in Nicaragua in which most of it was "roughing it," and 3 and a half days we stayed here. This place is incredible!! Amazing views, beautiful private beach, amazing cabins for lodging which include a little pool of your own, and a bed that feels like a cloud. They have security out and about 24/7 so we always felt safe. I would recommend doing the discovery package in which breakfast/lunch/dinner is included a few days (however alcohol is not included in this package), and 2 on site activities. They also have a spa on the beach where you can go for a massage if you so choose to spend the money (I want to say it was around $135 for a 60 minute massage??). It is definitely pricey, and may in fact be the most luxurious place to stay in Nicaragua. But if you have the opportunity to go and not complain about the fact that it is out of your budget, then it is well worth the serenity. I'm not sure I myself could stay for an entire week, because we kind of like to do the mix of staying in hostels and taking transportation the way locals do. But for 3 very relaxing days at the end of our backpacking experience, this was perfect! They grow most (if not all) of their own food, have the freshest seafood I've ever tasted, and play a huge role in reforestation. Enjoy!!

I had a chance to spend time with my daughter and two of my Grandsons. We chose Morgans Rock on friends recommendation. What a pleasant surprise. So close to nature yet all the comforts of home. The service was A+ while in a rustic form. The many things to do are well coordinated. The food was good especially since you work up a hunger swimming, hiking and sight seeing. It could also be very relaxing if that is what your looking for. Our family had a wonderful time, grew closer together while enjoying Morgans Rock.

We spent many days at MR with our two children (ages 9 & 11) for a family vacation. The resort is definitely a place for unplugging and unwinding. We loved the bungalows as we felt like we were living in in the jungle (though in comfort and style). The three open (screened ) sides of the lodging allow you to fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves, birds, crickets as well as be awakened by howler monkeys. The beach is exquisite with enough palapas to provide shade for all the groups/families/people. We spent most of our days body surfing and boogie boarding, reading and relaxing on the beach. The food was great, and the staff spectacular, especially Bismark, Roberto and Juan Carlos. Thank you for taking such good care of us!The main drawback is that once there, you are somewhat isolated (which may be welcome) unless you are willing to pay $50 to go to the next beach or town for the day. We went for the light meal plan and substituted with a-la-carte snacks and lunch when needed and it was plenty. MR would not be suitable for people who would be challenged by walking 300-456 steps down to the beach and restaurant and back up again.
