We stayed at Bishop's Lodge for 3 nights and it was an incredible experience. The staff anticipated all of our needs. They were all so very friendly. The room was appointed to perfection from the linens to the decor, we loved everything about it. We also loved the location of the Lodge as we were away from the hustle of the city while being close enough not to miss out on anything available there. We had our own car, so we would sometimes drive in and find parking but we also utilized the free shuttle service into town several times and enjoyed chatting with our driver about things to do and eat. An overall exceptional experience in every regard.

As many prior reviews have stated, the Bishop’s Lodge property itself is quite lovely. But also, as many have stated, the resort seems to have consistent staffing issues and needs maintenance to be stepped up. We were at the top of the hill (which is a good climb) and the room itself was nice with 2 fire places, outside fire pit and pretty decent bed. The view from our room’s patio was great. The main issue is, particularly considering the cost, that the resort does not provide 5 star value and is certainly not at the level of the mother ship (Auberge du Soleil) in Napa Valley. Whether this is because of the fairly rapid expansion of the Auberge group over the last decade or whether this is just a new standard that this particular property operates by is a question that needs to be raised. There is an apparent shortage of staff that becomes evident with often having trouble finding a golf cart to ferry you up the hill, slow service in the restaurant, inconsistent or non-existent turn-down service, unavailable valet, lack of maintenance in the room and poor housekeeping. None of these in themselves were a serious problem but, when you are charging these rates and leaning on the reputation of Auberge, these all add up to a disappointing experience. For our stay, the single most concerning issue was the prevalence of bugs in our room. We had many ants, roly-polys, spider crickets and other flying bugs that would land on you in the middle of the night or while you were in the bathroom. It appears that the ant problem lay with the gaps in the floor wall junctions that had deteriorated over time and need caulking and plastering. While they made some headway over our 4-night stay, we were never rid of the bugs and it really put a damper on our experience. Management did comp our dinner one night but, for the level of resort this portends to be and the quite expensive charge for the rooms, this was really not much of a response. I think the real challenge for Bishop’s Lodge is that by being part of Auberge, this level of service and accommodation can taint the rest of the Auberge brand and raise concern that other Auberge locations may also not be up to past standards. I hope that is not the case.

Me and my family went on vacation for this summer and we did not know that this place was absolutely gorgeous. From the welcoming , to the staff and the food, everything was beyond amazing. Definitely recommend not only for couples but also for families.

We stayed at Bishops Lodge between driving days home and it was a great experience for us and our two golden retrievers. The location and views were incredible. The temps were great during the day and night for early July, not too hot and just chilly enough at night to enjoy an evening stroll after dinner. The room we stayed in was perfect for us, we had an almost fully secluded patio in the Chapel House with two queen beds, I believe this is the only room with this type of secluded outdoor space, perfect for our pups and us. Note the room does have two queen beds, in AMEX travel site description it was noted as two Double beds, which is inaccurate. Also note the room has no bath tub, a trade off for other suite amenities such as the secluded patio, large living and dining area. The room was spotless and was maintained spotless throughout our 4 day/3 night stay. During the day you can hear the golf carts going up and down the little road next to the room however is pretty quiet in the evenings. The service to our room was great, all requested beverage and snack items accommodated our family including our pups. The vibe around the resort is relaxed. The restaurants were all tasty and friendly, they accommodated us and our pups on the patios which was a treat for us. There is even a dog menu that we ordered off of to treat our pups. The spa is relaxing, I enjoyed a massage there, highly recommend! They offer you tea before your service as well which was a nice perk! The only issue we had was our AC unit broke the last night we were there, maintenance attempted to fix it however were unable to. We did get fans delivered however since the room doesn’t have windows in the bedroom to open and provide ventilation, it stayed pretty stuffy. There is a door to the back patio that could be open but didn’t want any wild life coming in to make a visit overnight. We wish the staff could have made our last night more comfortable given we were driving 12 hours the following day. Otherwise I highly recommend this place and we plan to be back to take advantage of the fly fishing amenities!

“The Bishop's Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa was fabulous. They are so nice and treat everyone like they are the only people at the resort.”

“The reserved rooms were either shabby or had views that overlooked industrial buildings...for $50 per day we were upgraded to an outstanding villa that was probably worth much more”
