Reviews for Alderbrook Resort & Spa

Beautiful property, overpriced food!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We came to Alderbrook for a weekend getaway with our 5-month old puppy and I will say that I would definitely return. The property is just beautiful and small enough to feel like a boutique experience. We stayed in a first floor room with our pup and found the room to be very comfortable. The only suggestion I would make would be to put a small dining table in the first floor rooms, as they're typically designated for people bringing pets and since pets aren't allowed in the restaurant, you either have to get take out food from the restaurant and eat in the lobby or around the property, or room service, and the TV trays provided in the rooms don't make for a super-comfortable in-room dining experience. Also, the furniture felt a bid dated. In terms of cleanliness, the rooms could use some additional dusting around light fixtures but otherwise, the room felt clean and comfortable. One more note on the rooms: if you're bringing a pet, please call in advance to check if there's anything going on in the ballroom that shares a hallway with the rooms. There was a fundraising gala the same night we were there and if you're hoping for an early bed time, you're not going to get it. We were kept up by the live auction and activity in the ballroom until about 10:30pm that Saturday night. Not a big deal but if you're hoping to get a lot of sleep, do check in advance that there's nothing planned for that ballroom. The hotel staff were super-kind to our little puppy and you could feel the intentionality around dogs being welcome. I would say in terms of dining, the food did feel overpriced but everything we ordered was decent. As an example: the meat and cheese plate featured only 2 different pre-sliced cheeses (with not all that different taste profiles) and the accompaniments were very basic: dried figs and dried cranberries. Again, not a huge deal but for the price point it would have been nice to have a little more "oomph" there. Otherwise, we'll definitely return for a quick getaway from Seattle!

Not as good as it used to be

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

I used to LOVE to go here. Not anymore. Amenities I went to use were out of service. The steam room was broken, and smelled like mold. The hot tub was cold (Two days in a row) and the pool area was not clean (towels and garbage in multiple areas). We went to the bar to enjoy music only to find out they did not do that anymore. The breakfast was not good - I had coffee, a mimosa and veggie scramble $48! If they are going to charge those prices - with automatic 24% gratuity, then I expect above average food and service. I also expect the place to keep up on maintenance or at the very least, let people know before they book. When we informed the front desk about the problems, staff just said, "Sorry". Quality experience has definitely gone downhill.

Very nice hotel in a beautiful location. My room was quiet and well laid out. Pillows were supportive which is appreciated. The staff were friendly and helpful. Got to interact with the resident cats a bit. Lots of fun. Food was also pretty good.

Wonderful Anniversary Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

My husband and I recently celebrated our 63rd wedding anniversary at Alderbrook Resort. Since we live in Washington State, we have numerous friends who had been there and were aware of it's high ratings (and prices :). However, considering all the things that Alderbrook offers, it is much more than your average hotel. We had a very quiet room at the end of the 3rd floor in the main building--with a wonderful view of Hood Canal. We found all of the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a nice dinner in the restaurant (the only drawback--it was very crowded and noisy. Apparently the dining room doesn't have acoustic tile ceilings.) In the morning we just picked up breakfast from the snack bar and went on a walk around the grounds. The entire area is really beautiful. I've done Trip Advisor reviews for many years and rarely give a 5 star rating, but Alderbrook is so much more than just a nice place to stay overnight.

Union is where Bill Gates Vacations, why not you?

Top to bottom this resort is fantastic and the location is very picturesque. The beds are comfy, spa was transcendent, and the restaurant was amazingly good. I’d recommend going as a couple or with friends as it doesn’t seem totally kid-friendly.
