We pondered for quite a while over where to stay whilst in the Falls and cancelled a booking before finally plumping for here. So glad that we did. The rooms have balconies with views over the water hole, very large showers and everything else that you could want. The staff are really helpful, breakfast and dinner good. But the main thing is that waterhole. We ate in the Ilala Lodge and the Victoria Falls Hotel, so saw their facilities. In my opinion, sitting by a pool looking at a manicured lawn does not compare to sitting by a pool watching a family of elephants. Being out of town does not represent a problem, we used the shuttle bus every day and on 2 evenings and it was absolutely reliable. The Ilala Lodge is better for dinner, in terms of the food, but it is worth eating here one night, we enjoyed the meal and the views. Finally the staff are brilliant, so friendly and cannot do enough for you.

Our whole experience was very authentic & unpretentious, exactly what we were looking for. Being a little out of town the lodge is very peaceful & focused around a watering hole. The lodge's elevation gives a 180 degree view of unspoiled bush, we felt instantly relaxed. Spotting a Lioness with her 3 cubs at the watering hole from our bedroom was awesome! Food was great & staff super friendly.

The grounds and common areas are spectacular, very much like a Disney hotel. However you go up and down at least one flight of stairs to go anywhere, including going from your bed to your bathroom or closet. Our room was so cramped that two people could not pass each other between the bed and desk. Yes, we had a view of the watering hole on the plains behind the hotel but it was mostly blocked by overgrown trees and, since the rainy season was just ending, there was water everywhere and the animals didn't need the waterhole to drink. The vulture culture activity every day was interesting for the kids and getting some pictures. The food at dinner was not particularly tasty. The breakfast buffet was covered in a cloud of flies. The bees particularly liked the jams and jellies that were out. We ended up having a hot breakfast cooked to order to avoid the problem. It's not clear why the hotel didn't better deploy the cheese-cloth-like netting that other establishments use to prevent the problem. On the other hand, the hotel gift shop had the best collection of African art works of any place we saw in six weeks of traveling in southern Africa. Unfortunately, they would not ship any of their merchandise or artwork. You had to carry purchases out with you. We would have spent a lot of money there if they would have shipped the merchandise home for us.

Loved staying at this lodge. The watering hole is a constant source of animal activity and the daily vulture feeding is great! Room is wonderful and the restaurants have lovely selections, high quality and great service.
