This well-known and popular destination is a pedestrian-only area on 3 blocks of Third Street (from Wilshire to Broadway) in Santa Monica, The attractions here include many stores, restaurants, and street performers. My favorites spots are the art book stores: Arcana and Hennessey & Ingalls. At the Broadway end of the promenade is Santa Monica Place, a modern open-air mall. read more about Third Street Promenade

By far the trendiest place to shop in Los Angeles is Robertson Boulevard. Adjacent to the famous Melrose Avenue, Roberston is a prime spot to shop both well known designers and smaller boutiques. In fact, some are calling it the "New Melrose." Many celebrities shop this tree-lined stretch of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and it's easy to see why. As of late plenty of posh boutiques have popped up all over the place as well as cafes and restaurants. Popular places to have lunch while shopping include Ivy, Cuvee, Michel Richard Patisserie for dessert or the vegetarian-friendly Newspaper Cafe. Shopping includes Kate Spade, Kitson, Madison, Chanel, Lisa Kline, Curve, Vionnet, Alice & Olivia and more. read more about Robertson Boulevard

The developer of this site, Caruso Affiliated, is responsible for a number of these well-designed and consumer-friendly outdoor shopping areas. These "mediated public spaces" are somewhere between a mall and a public area, though in the final analysis they have more in common with a mall. A wide variety of higher end shops are located at Americana, including a Tiffany outlet and an H&M store. There is a nice outdoor area and a big fountain. Much as the Grove is located very close to the Beverly Center, Americana is immediately next the older Glendale Galleria.
