Top 10 Fun Restaurants in New York

Destination(s): New York City

Add an extra bit of ambiance to your dining experience with our top 10 fun restaurants in New York guide. Darcy McGee's Irish Pub has all the the fun and excitement you'd expect to find at an authentic pub from the old country. Irish home cooking and delicious fish and chips are just some of the dishes that keep 'em coming back for more. The Italian Fisherman is a lakeside entertainment mecca in addition to being a great place to find a wide variety of pasta, steaks, and seafood. RUB, which stands for Righteous Urban Barbeque, is run by a world champion barbecue cook-off winner. We suggest their pulled pork specialties and don't forget to try the deep-fried Oreos, they're sinfully good. Bar Jamon has delicious Spanish cuisine along with cheeseburgers and other American fare. Grab a stool at the bar and enjoy some of the wine from their extensive list - but get here early, it's a small venue with limited seating. read more about Top 10 Fun Restaurants in New York

  • Near Madison Avenue and East 23rd Street
  • Southeast corner of Madison Square Park
  • tel:1 212 889 6600

  • New York, 10010

Billed as a modern-day "roadside" burger stand, Shake Shack goes back to the basics of the hamburger (no truffles, foie gras, pork belly or Kobe beef in sight). As a result, it's won over legions of fans since its opening in Madison Square Park in 2004 (around the corner from owner Danny Meyer's upscale star Eleven Madison Park), and has been a perennial contender for best burger in the city. In addition, the Shake Shack hot dog and frozen custard--a creamy twist on soft-serve ice cream--help build the lines in warmer weather to epic proportions in the park location.

  • New York, 10009

As you can tell by its name, this tiny East Village spot specializes in arepas--soft, spongy corn tortilla-like pockets with a crispy bite on the outside and a tantalizing array of fillings inside. Some of the delicious options include chicken and chorizo, guacamole and cheddar cheese, pork with mango salsa and shredded beef with black beans and mashed sweet plantains. Vegetarian options abound, and tasty side dishes include ensalada fresca (watercress, cherry tomatoes and avocado over a bed of yucca and cucumbers) and fried green plaintains topped with mojito mayo. Snag a table inside if you're willing to wait; otherwise you can get take out at the counter next door and take your arepa for a picnic in nearby Tompkins Square Park.
