A Weekend in Lima

A Weekend in Lima
Destination(s): Lima

Lima's vast area stretches for thousands of square kilometres, an urban sprawl that contains numerous districts and neighborhoods, each with their own character and attractions. The city offers a bewildering number of points of interest and its size can sometimes feel overwhelming. However, it is relatively easy to group most of Lima's highlights and see the best of what the city has to offer in just a few days. This guide breaks the city's attractions down into three main areas: the cultural districts ofBarranco and Miraflores, the colonial center and the pre -Colombian ruins that are dotted around the city. Taxis are an easy way of traveling quickly through the city, but be sure to negotiate the price before you get in. As a general rule, it should cost around 5 soles betweenMiraflores and Barranco , and no more than 15 to central Lima. Ask in a restaurant or a shop if you're not sure what the reasonable price might be. Although central Lima has most of the colonial attractions,Miraflores is the more comfortable district and so this guide returns to the area for evening meals and hotels. read more about A Weekend in Lima... Cusco Action

Cusco Action
Destination(s): Cusco

In addition to Inca ruins, colonial architecture and traditional Andean villages, the Sacred Valley is also host to countless not-so-sacred adventure activities, including some of the best trekking options in the world, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking and whitewater rafting. The truly adventurous (and those with the necessary skills, expertise, equipment and insurance policy) can pack their crampons and climbing ropes for mountaineering expeditions, and some foolhardy visitors have been known to ski down the un-groomed, wild mountain sides. Cusco is full of agencies offering a whole range of adventure excursions. You'll find that most of them are offering the same services, but it's always wise to shop around, both for quality and safety. If planning a long, complex or expensive trip, it's always advisable to ask the agency to put all the details in writing before you hand over the cash. read more about Cusco Action... Read More

Cusco On The Cheap

Cusco On The Cheap
Destination(s): Cusco

Cusco and the Sacred Valley are one of the major attractions in all of South America, let alone Peru. Thousands of people visit the area every month, helping to drive up prices at hotels and restaurants, and encouraging officials to implement a tourist site seeing ticket called the boleta turistico which gives people access to all the area's major sites (excluding Machu Picchu ) and which is only good value if you intend to visit all of them. The ticket ($23 at time of writing) is valid for ten days and so might be worthwhile if you plan on returning to Cusco within that time, otherwise, the following guide sticks to sites and activities that are either free, or have a separate, lower entrance fee. read more about Cusco On The Cheap...
