I just spent 3 nights at The Loretto with my 22 and 24 daughters and we all enjoyed the charm and friendly staff of the Inn. Coming from NYC and DC, and frequent travelers to the RItz Carlton & Fairmont hotels, this mid-size hotel was exactly what we were looking for to take in the unique cultural Santa Fe and the West. The hotel decor is a western/indian mix. Our room while small was cozy and clean with a good size TV. For us, the room's main purpose is to sleep. The lobby/bar area was comfortable with leather couches and chairs that provided a perfect hangout for me to have a coffee and read the paper while the girls slept in. We were on the AMEX fine hotels and resorts package, so had a delicious breakfast every day and welcomed by our same waiter each morning. Service was great. After a day of hiking and travels up to Los Alamos and Bandelier Nat. Monument, a chilly rain came in so we decided just to eat dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was excellent as well as the service. The Inn's location was perfect- just 2 blocks from the Plaza. The other day we hung out at the pool after walking around the town. While it was a modest size pool, it was surrounded by large pots of overflowing flowers and wooden chaise lounge chairs with burnt-orange cushions that blended in well with the pueblo style architecture. Waiters brought waters and then they had a phone available to call for service, so I called for a diet coke. Just a few minutes later it came, and the waiter brought me a coke compliments of the house. They also had water, apples and coffee for all, which is just a nice touch. Finally, we didn't have a hotel in Taos for the next night, but the front desk girl told me I had to stay at this one hotel and she went ahead and made the reservation for me. We had a delightful stay at the Loretto and would be happy to return!

This property is within walking distant of most of Santa Fe's best attractions. hey are friendly, have an excellent restaurant and are most helpful to first time guests. Valet parking is convenient and gifts shops within the hotel makes shopping very easy. Much more shopping is within three blocks.

Pros Great location Beautiful building with lots of art Attractive decor reflecting local culture Firm mattress Quiet room Friendly staff Cons Wifi is terrible - don't rely on it! Polyester sheets - soft but not comfortable for sleeping - I would expect high quality cotton in a luxury resort Lightning is poor - particularly in the entrance to rooms Interior showing signs of wear - toilet seats need replacing - wobbly shelf in guest room bath Mini fridge is full of items for purchase- very little room to put in your personal items No place to lock up valuables in the room

This hotel is a bit tired and the same as it was a few years back. It is my understanding that it has new owners so they are hoping for improvements right away. The staff is wonderful and so helpful. Front desk folks are awesome! Banquet staff aims to please! Super job. I would highly suggest they start with a room update....and new mattresses wound be the first thing to do! The carpet in the sleeping rooms should also be replaced with a hard surface! Location is PERFECT!!!!!

I just loved this hotel. The staff is friendly and eager to make your stay enjoyable. I loved the historic feel of the place, and our room was just perfect for was an ADA room on the second floor with plenty of space and accommodations for my husband, who is handicapped. I was worried about a prior reviewer who said she and her husband had short beds, and neither of them were over 5'10" but their feet hung over the bottom of the beds. I sure didn't want a room with a short bed! But I figured out that they must have left the over-sized decorative pillows on at the head of the bed instead of removing them for sleeping. I asked at the front desk if they had any short beds and the front desk clerk looked at me like I was nuts. "No, all of the beds are standard length." she replied slowly. My sister-in-law and her partner gave me a massage for my birthday, and it was just right. The woman who gave the massage used just the right firm pressure, and checked with me midway, just to make sure that it was the pressure I enjoyed. The message rooms are beautiful, with soothing music playing and a warm massage bed to lay on. Perfect.
