Top 10 Five Star Restaurants

Destination(s): Bangkok

The five star restaurant scene in Thailand is more about attitude than about elegance, and the best of food always comes together with the coolest and most inviting crowds. Chefs work behind the scenes with locally sourced ingredients that are always fresh and organic, while the rest of the staff is there to make sure you are happy with your view, plate and drink. The places we have selected offer the very best of culinary service in Thailand, but at the same time they remain popular among locals and students, which is a good indicator of the prices and atmosphere they promote. Venues like Zoe in Yellow or Baan Rim Pa Restaurant are some of the most popular culinary destinations for locals and tourists alike, while the expat community of Bangkok goes for the casual, yet posh British style Barbican. For the ultimate Bangkok experience visit the mind blowing Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar and have a delicious meal on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel. You will never forget it. read more about Top 10 Five Star Restaurants

They don't call this Vertigo for nothing. The views from the 61ist floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel are indeed dizzying. Arguably one of the most romantic spots in Bangkok, Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar provides upscale food and drink in a smart casual environment. Grilled seafood and champagne with a 360-degree view of the City of Angels makes this place a must. Enjoy occasional jazz music as well. This is an open-air restaurant and opening hours are weather dependent. read more about Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar

The huge sign outside Seafood Market and Restaurant says "If it swims, we have it." The restaurant itself is cavernous, with part of it being a fish market where you can walk around with your shopping cart and pick your seafood live. Then you go back to the restaurant part and select your preparation, and your fish will be brought to your table, cooked to perfection. read more about Seafood Market and Restaurant

  • Chiang Mai, 50200

A new Turkish/greek-style venue located in Chiang Mai's Boon Yoo Market area, Zoe in Yellow took over the site after the departure of Café Del Sol (now located near the Night Bazaar). The fit out for the bar and restaurant is impressive and the bar attracts a largely backpacker crowd with a smattering of Thai's who like and can afford the western scene. Zoe in Yellow has unashamedly gone after the backpacker market with a very different, Mediterranean style venue – transforming the soi's reggae and rock roots. A variety of DJs play here and the seating is comfortable. There is a Greek and Turkish buffet on Thursday and Sunday nights. read more about Zoe In Yellow

Baan Rim Pa Restaurant

  • 223 Kalim Beach Road
  • On the cliffs just north of Patong Beach
  • tel:+66 76 34 0789

  • Phuket, 83150

Baan Rim Pa is located right next to another of Phuket's best restaurants, Da Maurizio. Both places share breathtaking views of the ocean and the Bay of Kalim. Baan Rim Pa offers a one-of-a-kind menu, though. The dishes served here were once reserved for only Thailand's royalty. Though the ingredients are basic (chicken, noodles, prawns), the preparation and flavors are not. Secure a place on the open balcony and try the herbed crispy vermicelli or the fried rolled fish topped with garlic sauce. Both are favorites here and a good example of the Baan Rim Pa's attention to detail. For a taste of something local, order Tom Kloang Pla Grob, a smoked dried fish served in a spicy soup. read more about Baan Rim Pa Restaurant
