Opened in 2007, Topaz Restaurant is a serious and elegant place established inside a tall residential building up on the hills of Gumussuyu. One side of the establishment, that is looking directly over Bosphorus, has been covered entirely by window panes, creating a mystifying atmosphere, an illusion that you may be reigning over the Bosphorus. Sitting by the window panes on this side makes you also feel as if you are hovering over the beautiful city of Istanbul. The food, as well as the atmosphere, is also overwhelming. It is not cheap, but worth every penny. the menu is diverse with samples of Ottoman Cuisine and World Cuisine. Bursa Gazipasa Artichokes with black rice, Tortellini with pate, Vegetable risotto with beef, Istanbul Seabass with Agean grassroots are highly recommended. There are also two degustacion menus: one on Ottoman cuisine and one on Mediterrenean. Good variety of wine, very good service.

Despite a fairly good French-influenced menu, most of the moneyed clientele come here to be seen rather than eat. The well-heeled customers enter through a narrow corridor -a.k.a VIP-, walk over colorful old carpets and bright kilims (traditional Turkish rugs) into a wide saloon with an incredible view of the Bosphorus. Ulus 29 is located right above, on the same hill as the, Sunset Grill Bar & Restaurant. The two restaurants share the same aura, clientele and the view; and have slightly influenced menus, yet differ by the fact that Ulus 29 is a bar, restaurant and club. Even though dinner may end around midnight at 29, the 29 club is usually just starting by that time. The ostentatious dcor of both restaurant and the club area makes the whole place resemble a gigantic Bedouin tent. In summer, everyone prefers to dine on the open-air garden terrace with fabulous views of the Bosphorus. The menu covers a wide array of cuisines, but is fairly influenced by French, Ottoman Classics and Italian.

Kanaat Restaurant is one of the oldest diners in Istanbul, serving traditional Turkish / Ottoman cuisine samples. Given that there are few other points of interest in skdar and around this restaurant, you normally wouldn't make a special trip to come and dine here unless you happen to be on this side of town for business or special sightseeing -such as visiting a unique mosque, hammam or palace. Nonetheless, it is also said among the locals that "there are only two reasons to go to skdar: 1. to take the ferry 2. for Kanaat Restaurant". Indeed, locals on the Anatolian side visit this bustling, semi-historic eatery quite often for a quick lunch or an informal dinner and dine on pre-prepared main courses. It must yet be noted that some locals also lament in nostalgia that Kanaat as it is today is incomparable to its original establishment back in 1900s. There are some fairly ambitious and oily dishes such as Elbasan Tava—large chunks of juicy beef with melted local cheddar cheese, farm fresh eggs and a combination of seasonal vegetables-, Stuffed Onions -a specialty of Kanaat, unlikely to be found anywere else-, zbek Rice -rice cooked together with lamb-chomps and dried onions-, Milk Pudding or Custard with ice-cream, Pumpkin Pie and more. You are advised to carry cash as you arrive, they are unlikely to accept credit cards.
