Turkey Trip Itineraries

Top 10 Things to Do in Turkey

Destination(s): Ankara

Turkey is a country with very rich history and culture, so there are plenty of museums and organized activities that celebrate the local culture through collections of old objects and artefacts, or through tours of important historical places. The large cities are destinations in themselves, especially Istanbul, where you will find an eclectic mix of people, cultures and flavors from around the world. In fact, one of the best shows Turkey has to offer is Kapali ăarsi (Covered Market), a huge labyrinth filled with all imaginable objects for locals and tourists to buy. However, it is essential that you practice some bargaining skills before you go there, as you should never settle for the prices requested by the vendors. Another wonderful attraction in Istanbul is Adalar (Princes' Islands), a collection of seven small islands where there are no cars and there is plenty of relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city. read more about Top 10 Things to Do in Turkey

Adalar (Princes' Islands)

Adalar (Princes' Islands)

  • Adalar
  • Istanbul

In Turkish, "adalar" simply means "islands" - though adalar are very familiar territory for Istanbulites, which island you are referring to is still quite important since many Istanbullites use the islands as their summer residence and have a genuine circle of relatives and friends there. Probably the most popular day trip option from Istanbul, at least in the summer, the Princes' Islands are comprised of seven small islands, four of which (BŘyŘkada, K─▒nal─▒ada, Burgazada and Heybeliada) have constant summertime service by ferry from Kabata┼č and Bostanci. The islands offer treasures of history (Byzantine churches and Greek and Turkish ruins), green parks, and various upscale restaurants and hotels. As no cars are allowed onto the islands, you would be better off renting a horse-backed carriage to go from one part to another; or to arrive on the islands dressed casually and renting a bike. The islands are a wonderful retreat from bustling Istanbul, each with its own unique character and pace of life. read more about Adalar (Princes' Islands)
