Splendid Venice in Venice, Italy

Floating gondolas, the chime of ancient church bells, and romantic piazzas make Venice such a treasured Italian destination. Splendid Venice, part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and a member of the Preferred Hotel Group, was built during the 16th century. Located between St. Mark's Square and the landmark Rialto Bridge, this historic hideaway features 165 guestrooms. The hotel has been completely refurbished, maintaining a traditional Venetian presence coupled with contemporary appointments. Walls are cloaked in pearl gray with hand-painted wisteria accents. Lush velvets and cool silk textiles, which cover headboards and furnishings, add a most luxurious touch. The hotel's private docks jut out into the canals, allowing guests to disembark from gondolas and water taxis with ease.

As if stepping into the pages of a Hemingway novel, a stay at Splendid Venice feels like a work of art. The hotel's signature restaurant Le Maschere features a sophisticated menu of traditional Venetian dishes and million-dollar views of the canal. Ambient lighting filters from beneath red silk chandeliers at The Bar, which features sexy black lacquered furnishings and bolts of rich fabric. Indulge in red wine from neighboring Tuscany or a martini served straight up at this hip location. Sheltered by a glass roof, the hotel's courtyard is perfect year-round enjoyment. Step beyond the hotel doors and discover all that Venice embodies: the gondola museum where the same family has hand-crafted vessels for centuries, the gelaterias featuring homemade gelato, and the wine shops stocked with shelves of Italy's finest vintages.

Splendid hotel has perfect location between San Marco square and Rialto bridge. Rooms are specious and comfortable. Part of them has a canal view. Breakfests are very good, but it is very crowdy around 9 - you need to wait to have a chance to find a table.

My wife organised a trip to Venice to celebrate our 35th anniversary and my 80th birthday. We chose the hotel Splendid Venice Venezia (Starhotels Collezione), because of the very good reviews it had received. We are really glad we did. Arrival by water taxi from the airport was exhilarating and very exciting. We disembarked at the Rialto Bridge and there initially was a problem finding the hotel, we soon found our way around though. From the outside it's a very nice hotel, right on the canal with its own landing stage. Check in was quick and efficient but not too friendly. The public areas of the hotel were absolutely gorgeous and spotlessly clean. There were three lounge areas which overlooked the canal, so you could sit and have a drink whilst watching the gondolas sail quietly past-wonderful! Our room (a deluxe double/twin with canal view) was excellent, spacious and luxurious and spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The restaurant was lovely, and you could have your breakfast under an open canopy when the weather was fine, which it was whilst we were there. Plenty of choice at breakfast and the service was first class. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and very efficient. The location of the hotel is fantastic, and it is indeed a 5 minute walk to either St. Mark's Square or the Rialto Bridge. There are lots of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel, although the hotel's own restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced. It was a very atmospheric place to be in the evening. We met the General Manager (Mr. Salvatore Pisani) on our third day at the hotel. He had very kindly rung us in our room to personally welcome us to his hotel. He's a lovely gentleman with a lovely manner. He obviously cares a great deal about his hotel and the staff who work there, and also about his guests at the hotel. Thank you Mr. Pisani for meeting us, we hope to see you again soon. We will ring you before we make our next booking, which hopefully will be in September or October. Summing up, the Splendid is a really superb hotel, in a fantastic location. The whole hotel is spotlessly clean, and very comfortable and luxurious. We would like to mention some of the hotel's staff who were extremely helpful and friendly and kind. Riccardo in the restaurant is an absolutely wonderful young man with a really lovely nature. Erica on reception is worth her weight in gold. A really lovely young lady who was superb in sorting out our water taxi problem-thank you so much Erica! We would also like to mention Marco in the lounge bar in the evenings and Daniel who was in the bar and sometimes in the restaurant for breakfast. Both these gentlemen had a wonderful attitude and were very efficient. The doormen and porters were excellent, extremely helpful and very polite-we are sorry but we cannot remember their names! The housekeeping team were fantastic, our room was always beautifully clean, thank you Valentina and your colleagues. If you do go to Venice try and get a room at this amazing and beautiful hotel, you won't regret it (try to get a canal view deluxe room on the 4th floor). Also go for a gondola ride-it's usually 80 euros and worth every penny-a wonderful experience. We are hoping to return in September or October and are looking forward enormously to staying again at this superb hotel.

Easy access to Rialto bridge and all the sights in St Marks square. A very comfortable hotel and is one of the few to include breakfast. Very helpful staff and has a roof top terrace to enjoy the sunset with a drink and bar snacks.

My Husband whisked me away for a weekend in Venice for my birthday and this hotel was so gorgeous to arrive at. Its in a fab location, the Staff are amazing and couldn't do more to help you get settled in your room. The bar was a lovely little hang out in the evenings and the roof bar was gorgeous to sit out in the afternoon with a drink.

Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also good. We were on a Insight Excursion and this was our final stop after a 12 day tour. The hotel was very helpful in confirming our hotel for the next stop,
