Splendid Venice in Venice, Italy

Floating gondolas, the chime of ancient church bells, and romantic piazzas make Venice such a treasured Italian destination. Splendid Venice, part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and a member of the Preferred Hotel Group, was built during the 16th century. Located between St. Mark's Square and the landmark Rialto Bridge, this historic hideaway features 165 guestrooms. The hotel has been completely refurbished, maintaining a traditional Venetian presence coupled with contemporary appointments. Walls are cloaked in pearl gray with hand-painted wisteria accents. Lush velvets and cool silk textiles, which cover headboards and furnishings, add a most luxurious touch. The hotel's private docks jut out into the canals, allowing guests to disembark from gondolas and water taxis with ease.

As if stepping into the pages of a Hemingway novel, a stay at Splendid Venice feels like a work of art. The hotel's signature restaurant Le Maschere features a sophisticated menu of traditional Venetian dishes and million-dollar views of the canal. Ambient lighting filters from beneath red silk chandeliers at The Bar, which features sexy black lacquered furnishings and bolts of rich fabric. Indulge in red wine from neighboring Tuscany or a martini served straight up at this hip location. Sheltered by a glass roof, the hotel's courtyard is perfect year-round enjoyment. Step beyond the hotel doors and discover all that Venice embodies: the gondola museum where the same family has hand-crafted vessels for centuries, the gelaterias featuring homemade gelato, and the wine shops stocked with shelves of Italy's finest vintages.

We booked this hotel last minute through and got a great price. Venice is expensive but I felt that we paid a fair price (167 euros per night) for a good place. My 9 year old son and I had a superior twin room on second floor overlooking the restaurant in the courtyard. It wasn't noisy at all. The room was spotlessly clean, stylish, and the bathroom was beautifully appointed with a great shower, double sink, bath and lots of lovely marble. Both room and bathroom looked to have been renovated recently- stylish not dated or tired looking. We were very happy. Beds beautifully comfortable. We ate at La Maschere on Sunday evening. Food was okay, not spectacular, but the experience was special. Attentive service (although my empty wine glass wasn't noticed!) and a beautiful atmosphere. My son felt that it was a very grownup, special experience even though he is used to eating out a lot. Beautiful fireplace with fire going, candlelit and a very good pianist. For a romantic dinner I can see that this would be ideal. The restaurant is really really lovely with a glass roof. I also noticed that it was full of locals on Sunday lunchtime having a wonderful time- whole families having lunch, wine, children running around- a good advert I'd say. Restaurant staff good as were the front desk. The male concierge wasn't quite as warm or welcoming as I would expect but you can't have everything. The roof terrace is also a lovely spot. The location is superb if you want to see the main sites on your doorstep. We loved walking for literally 5 minutes and being in St Marks Square. Ok it's a very touristy area, but for us it was perfect and the hotel like an oasis. Try breakfast or hot chocolate and pastries from Rosa Salva which is a 2 minute walk. Would definitely recommend the hotel- if you can get a deal on price.

We are just back from a fantastic weekend in Venice. The hotel was beautiful, and the location is second to none. We had a suite as our group consisted of my friend and I and our two children. Only a 3 minute stroll from the Rialto bridge and also 3 minutes from St. Mark's Square. In the centre of the shopping district. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. By night, the restaurant was candlelit and in the morning, the glass ceiling opened much to our delight. We got a super deal on and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to treat themselves to a relaxing break in luxurious surroundings in Venice.

The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of Venice just a short stroll to St Marks square. The rooms are delightful with all the essentials including a good hairdryer and fluffy towels. The bar is situated right on the canal so that you can have a drink and watch the gondolas go past

Outstanding location. 3 minute walk from San Marco Square and Rialto Bridge in a lovely part of central Venice. You can walk to everything from here. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good with loads of choice. Room was fine with everything you need. Only small compliant was the air con was broken so we had to open the windows, this meant it was really noisy and we have a issue with mosquitos. Overall though if you are looking for a good central hotel in a Venice this is a great choice. Brilliant value for money.
