Splendid Venice in Venice, Italy

Floating gondolas, the chime of ancient church bells, and romantic piazzas make Venice such a treasured Italian destination. Splendid Venice, part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and a member of the Preferred Hotel Group, was built during the 16th century. Located between St. Mark's Square and the landmark Rialto Bridge, this historic hideaway features 165 guestrooms. The hotel has been completely refurbished, maintaining a traditional Venetian presence coupled with contemporary appointments. Walls are cloaked in pearl gray with hand-painted wisteria accents. Lush velvets and cool silk textiles, which cover headboards and furnishings, add a most luxurious touch. The hotel's private docks jut out into the canals, allowing guests to disembark from gondolas and water taxis with ease.

As if stepping into the pages of a Hemingway novel, a stay at Splendid Venice feels like a work of art. The hotel's signature restaurant Le Maschere features a sophisticated menu of traditional Venetian dishes and million-dollar views of the canal. Ambient lighting filters from beneath red silk chandeliers at The Bar, which features sexy black lacquered furnishings and bolts of rich fabric. Indulge in red wine from neighboring Tuscany or a martini served straight up at this hip location. Sheltered by a glass roof, the hotel's courtyard is perfect year-round enjoyment. Step beyond the hotel doors and discover all that Venice embodies: the gondola museum where the same family has hand-crafted vessels for centuries, the gelaterias featuring homemade gelato, and the wine shops stocked with shelves of Italy's finest vintages.

Nice hotel, good location, very busy, breakfast is good but nothing special, great bar on the roof, good bar in the lobby, no view from the room, but rooms are well furnished. Would recommend this hotel overall, enjoy Venice!

It is a nice hotel in a good location, but I base that statement in the context of how much I paid (i.e., whether it was good value). For the price I paid (210E, including breakfast, non-refundable, in mid-June), I got a good deal, but I am a bit amazed by the typical prices they ask (often 400E) for the same room. My review is based on the price I paid. Please be advised that the "Superior" room is indeed perfectly nice, but most people who book this room category are going to be surprised how small the bedroom is, at approximately 8 feet wide. I think most of the favourable reviews on here are from people who either paid more for a bigger room or got upgraded. My room was nice and had almost no exterior noise (as I was facing the courtyard), but there is quite a bit of noise from the hallway (doors slamming, people talking, etc.). Breakfast was decent, although they only had one dining room open, and thus there was a wait (even at 10am). I think it would have been nicer if they had opened up a nearby room to accommodate more people. Fried eggs are 2.5E each extra.

I recently stayed for one night after literally booking on arrival and I was a bit worried because it was a very impromptu trip to Venice and I wanted the full experience in one day. A lot to ask but I got it. The location could not have been better close to all the main attractions that I wanted to see. The room...the way I was meant to live LOL. I don't know if I got lucky but the room was beautifully decorated spacious impeccable. A separate sitting area, a spacious bathroom and wonderful bed. I slept like a baby. Even forgot where I was. It was right on one of the canals. The rooftop was beautiful. Breakfast was very nice as well. Only area where they could improve is the rooftop, although beautiful there were no attendants there and you know what that would have been a nice thing to have. Having to schlep down to the lobby bar to purchase a drink to walk to the elevator to go up and than make sure you take the right elevator that take you to the rooftop was cumbersome. I was not able to return for the evening aperol spritz the hotel hosted on the rooftop but I imagine it was nice. Would I return...ABSOULTELY!!! Recommended and I am spoiled a bit.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during our Italy trip. It was fantastic!! The hotel upgraded us to a mini suite on a high floor which overlooked the small canal that passes the hotel. The room was a nice size and very well furnished. They serviced the room twice daily, which is always nice. The staff were extremely nice and very helpful. We had the breakfast included and the buffet was ok. It would have been nice to have a few more options, but it was nice. We had dinner at the hotel one of our nights and it was very good. A lot of Venetians praise the restaurant and with good cause. The food was delicious with extremely generous portions. Plus it has outdoor seating in its own private courtyard which is also a treat. Overall, this hotel was a great pick!!

Loved the spacious room and bathroom. The service was nice. The hotel restaurant was not great but the rooftop terrace bar was perfect with nice service, great snacks, wonderful view and some pigeons for company. The hotel was quiet at night and the AC worked very well and the windows opened.
