Splendid Venice

I recently stayed at Splendid Venice and while my trip ended on a high note, it didn’t start that way. I had booked and paid for a deluxe canal-view room, but when I arrived, the hotel insisted my reservation was for a standard room. After wasting time at the front desk and even missing a paid excursion while trying to resolve the issue, I was extremely frustrated. TripAdvisor support was useless in helping me, which only made things worse. The only reason it was eventually corrected was because I pushed hard with the hotel directly. To their credit, once the situation was acknowledged, the staff did upgrade me to a very nice room, and I thoroughly enjoyed the upgraded accommodations once I was settled in. The property itself is beautiful, the location is excellent, and the upgraded room was exactly what I expected from a hotel of this caliber. That said, it should never have taken that much effort to receive the room I had originally booked and paid for. While I appreciated the final resolution, the process left a lot to be desired. In short: a lovely hotel in the heart of Venice, but be prepared to advocate for yourself if something goes wrong with your reservation.

After two weeks of traveling, we were excited to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and birthdays in Venice at Hotel Splendid. It reminded us of a favorite hotel in NYC that we’ve returned to time and again. Our room and sitting area was spacious and quiet, traditionally and classically furnished and just the sort of place to settle in for a perfect stay. The beautifully appointed marble bathroom with an ample sized vanity and steaming hot shower was refreshing. The restaurant was very good — both for breakfast and we had one evening meal of a delicious filet and sea bass. Room service is a plus! If you want to be close to everything, but enjoy a break from the bustling crowds, Splendid’s quiet luxury on a secondary canal is your place.

What a perfect place to stay. Great location, beautiful rooms and great staff ! Location was close to all the major sites and close to delicious restaurants. Would absolutely stay here again !!!

The staff was friendly and the location was good. The room was tired and outdated and we had a connecting room with our kids, but if you wanted to have the door between the rooms open, you couldn’t turn off the light in the hallway at night. The white plumbing fixtures had some yellowing and staining. I’m assuming that is minerals in the water, but it didn’t feel very luxurious. I would probably look for a different hotel next time, but there was nothing wrong with the place and I think that lowering expectations a notch when in Venice is probably a good plan.

Great hotel in a fantastic location. We stayed in a family room (2 beds and 2 bath), which was perfect for our family of four. Room was very clean, with ample room and only downside was kids room had better view of a side canal. Service was outstanding from the front desk, to housekeeping and especially Ali. Venice is a great walking city and hotel location can't be beat.
