We don't spend money on printed travel guides. We do keep several travel print magazine subscriptions current, just for the quality of the writing and the photography. Our travel tips mostly come from assorted Internet web sites.

Tom - IMO,at least for us, most printed guide books are passé. The Internet rules for current tips and info, especially with the number of active blogs. Andrew Harper has set us right on several occasions....last time in Peru, we enjoyd one of their reviews and bought the Luxury Link package at Hotel Titlaka The Andean Experience Co. Tailor-made Trips to Peru in Authentic Luxury (equal to the Savoy - in a different setting).

When I lived in the middle of the US, I made a couple of trips to Hawaii and enjoyed the islands and the whole experience. Now that I live on the east coast, it just seems like such a long trip when I can easily hop down to the Caribbean.

Tom we're big fans of the Aloha State, especially the Big Island and Kauai.

Last time we visited, we took a group of associates (a business convention) on an extended helicopter tour....a huge 'rush' seeing Kilauea erupting, followed by an extremely low flight across the Pacific (I swear there was moisture on the windscreen from the top of the surf), finishing with a once in a life time close encounter of the waterfalls of the upper Wailuku River.

Back in 2007 we did our honeymoon at the Royal Hawaiian on Oahu, spent a night at Hotel Hana Maui, and finished with a few nights at the Four Seasons in Wailea, Maui where I got my scuba-diving certification --- Great times were had

Nice write up - we have been on 2 trips to Hawaii and have to say the big island was our favorite and after that Kauai. Love the islands and plan on a return trip at some point - we want to see Lanai and Molokai - have not been on those 2 yet

Tom, I haven't been in Hawaii for long, long time. Living out east, the trip to Hawaii requires a good bit of travel time. Using the same amount of time in the air, I can be in Europe, Central or South America. I had fun in Hawaii and enjoyed the visits, but I have other places to explore.
