Yep. Elevators. =) In fact, the glass-front elevator to the beach is the only one of its kind in the Eastern Caribbean. Wish I had taken a picture of it. #NextTime.

Bahia--how awesome!! That was one of my middle stops--just before I went to Recife for 2 wks! I also went to Belem before continuing to Recife and Barbados via puddle jumpers. I had a tough time understanding the FA's announcements at every stop, so I asked them each time we landed--"Is this where I get off the plane?" Nao...

I have the most amazing memories of my first trip to Barbados in 1975. I stayed at the Crane (obviously not developed as "residences" etc) for a week. I scheduled it as a wind-down from a 4 wk trip to Brazil as a 20 yr old. My first big international adventure. The view form my room was spectacular, the only pool was the columned one, and the bar was cantilevered over a deep something-foot to the nearly private beach. I think there were 2 chairs down there and so many steps to get down (AND UP!). Those were the days you needed a mini-moke to get around, or stand out on the main road to hail a local bus.
I am interested in revisiting the Crane but not sure if it will spoil my memories, or just create new ones. My knees are arguing with me about getting to and from the beach.

Your comment just put a really nice smile on my face, kyshel! I was looking for pictures of the old Crane, wondering what my great and great-great grandparents in Barbados might have thought of it. I'm sure there was "talk" back then when it was first built.

No more steps to the beach! Maybe your knees might appreciate the elevators in all of the buildings and down to the beach. =) Also, there are taxis standing by now since St. Peter is not exactly on the beaten path (although there is a market nearby). I still think riding a local bus in Barbados shouldn't be avoided. Lots of changes since 1975, eh?
