Weve just returned from a 5-day stay at this property, having enjoyed a LL package that included breakfast every day, one dinner, and two spa treatments person. This property is located at the base of the Jackson Hole ski resort, an area known as Teton Village. Its a 20-minute ride away from the town of Jackson. This makes for an odd disconnect, between the town and ski resort. The base area is expanding, so there are now a number of restaurants and shops. For more of the action, you can take a taxi into town, or ride the local bus for about $3.

For skiing, Snake River Lodge is situated very well. Its less than a 5-minute walk up to the lifts, and (snow-permitting) you can right ski back to the hotel door at the end of the day. We appreciated the ski valet, located most appropriately for the shortest walk to the base. The guys there were very helpful, retrieving your skis and placing them outside for you. It was nice not to thump through the hotel wearing ski boots, as these were also left with the ski valet.

This property had one restaurant, the Gamefish. Breakfast was a buffet with an omelet station. The selection was excellent. I was impressed by the huge bowl of fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. There was other fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, even 3 varieties of smoked salmon. Breakfast muffins were worth the extra calories. There were also eggs, French toast, pancakes, potatoes, meats and cheeses. The wait staff was excellent.

Dinner was also very good. The menu is meat-centric, as is typical for this area, but there was one vegetarian dish and it was excellent. On another night we combined a number of appetizers for dinner. This was made easier by the option to order appetizers in two sizes, individual and for sharing. I enjoyed the combination of casual atmosphere (jeans acceptable) with such good food and service.

Ahthe spa. This was the highlight of the property. On the main level there was an indoor/outdoor pool, with both indoor and outdoor hot tubs. The outdoor hot tub was built into the surrounding rock area (we think it was concrete that looked like rock). So it was a bit private, with a water fall that could be switched on separately from the jets. The second floor housed a salon. The third floor housed treatment rooms and womens area. The womens area has a lounge, with a fireplace, comfy chairs and a selection of magazines. You can make a cup a tea, take a piece of fruit, or even order from a spa menu to have a meal delivered to you there. There was also another hot tub (with a view of the mountain), sauna, steam room, showers and dressing rooms. After skiing, my daily activity would include spending some time in this area. The fourth floor has the same facilities for the men. The fitness center is on the fifth floor. There are cardio and weight machines, and a variety of free weights. There is also a separate room where yoga classes were held. There was an afternoon yoga class every day, and a morning class three days/week. These classes were $15 each.

The staff was most helpful and friendly. We found the air to be very dry, and they fulfilled our request for a humidifier (which helped a bit). We also reported a noisy heater in the hall outside our room, and that issue was addressed. Overall, Snake River Lodge is an excellent property. If Jackson Hole is the destination, this would be a good choice. If any of you are considering a trip and have questions, please let me know and Ill do my best to answer.

    Hi Marla,
Sounds like you had a wonderful ski vacation at the Snake River Lodge. I remember Jackson Hole from way back when, when the town was small and relatively undeveloped. We were there in the summer of 1967, camping at Jenny Lake. We enjoyed pack trips on horses into the mountains and rafted on the white water rapids down the Snake River enjoying the wild life and the exceptional beauty of the Grand Tetons. We were so taken with the Grand Teton massive that we enrolled in the Exum Ridge Mountaineering School for a 3-day technical climbing course learning how to set and anker pitons, learning how to belay and secure a climber below, and how to rappel. The course culminated in the ascend of the Grand Teton and the grand rappel down the front face of the mountain, quite an exciting experience.... We had previously climbed the Matterhorn in Switzerland with a mountain guide but felt we were lacking proper training for these escapades. With this new found expertise we felt more confident in the following years when we scaled Mount Blanc in France and many other high peaks in the Alps. We haven't gone back to Jackson Hole in all that time, but your account of skiing at Jackson Hole and using the LL Snake River Lodge as a base is wetting my appetite for a trip out West....

    Hi Travelfan,
Thank you for your comments! We enjoyed the hotel very much as I stated. I would just like to add something about the skiing, in case that activity may be in your plan. I had skied Jackson Hole about 15 years ago, when I was really an intermediate skier. One of my goals for this trip was to ski the areas I could not tackle last time. I don't mean the double-black diamonds or out-of-bounds, I was just looking to go to the top! On the first morning I realized that was not going to happen. The mountain scared me. The reason, I think, is that you can see the entire valley from everywhere. So instead of just concentrating on what I was trying to ski, I was terrified by the vastness of the view before me. I was with a couple of friends who had a similar experience. For advanced/expert skiers, it's a wonderful mountain. They also have a nice beginner area. For my level (I ski black diamonds in the east), it was not the best choice. Fortunately, the spa treatments helped to relieve the stress!

    Hi disneygal

Reading your fascinating blog on your stay at the Snake River Lodge at Jackson Hole, Wyoming takes me back to a similarly wonderful and relaxing stay my wife and I recently (Sept. 2007) enjoyed at another superb LL property. Our accommodation for four glorious days and nights was the Cathedral Mountain Lodge inside Yoho National Park in British Columbia. We used it as our "base camp" for several journes on foot and by car to explore the amazing natural wonders of the Canadian Rocky Mountains which surround the Lodge. What a glorious experience that was. See my blogs elsewhere on the LL Community for details on these travel adventures.

    Curt
