We recently spent 2 nights at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado as a weekend treat. Located just miles from our home, it was like a grand vacation in a distant city without the hassle of traveling. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful architecture, discovering "hidden" rooms with warm fires and opulent fountains and walking around the lake on pathways lit by trees covered in tiny white lights. Everywhere we turned there were uniformed staff offering assistance, fresh cut flowers in abundance, historical photos and paintings to accent the painted ceilings and carved woodwork. Our standard room was quite roomy with a beautiful view of the lake from our balcony and a bed piled high with elegant bedding, feeling anything but 'standard'. We were looking for a quiet low-key weekend, but for those more active there were many options including golfing and tennis, spa treatments, and swimming.

The dining choices were numerous from casual to fine dining, and we took advantage of both ends of the spectrum. The epitome of luxury was to be found in the Sunday Brunch where the array of gourmet foods was beyond my comprehension! I wasn't even able to begin choosing without making a couple of circuits just to take it all in...in amazement. Once we decided on where to begin we spent the next 2 hours slowly tasting delicacies and savoring each new flavor. The server was quite attentive and even brought out a beautiful plate with Happy Birthday written in white chocolate script along the rim encircling a decadent dessert and a tart filled with hand-painted marzipan.

As we left, we were already planning what we would do the next time.
This is a resort well worth it's name.
