Hoarding For Good!

We have ceased selfishly collecting/hoarding hotel toiletries....you know, those cute little bottles and bars of soap you probably wouldn't find or consider buying back home.

We've changed (at least somewhat modified) our pilfering ways!

OK, not totally, since we do save a few of the more luxurious items.....using them in our master bath or tucking them in the guest room and powder room for use by house guests.

Why the change? Someone told of their own personal mission to donate after their travels unopened and unused toiletry items to a local shelter for women. Noting that most of these shelters are always in need of these items.

So now we seriously collect all travel size toiletries (shampoo, conditioners, shower gels, toothpaste, bath & hand soap, deodorant), disposable razors, shaving cream, toothbrushes (yes, we even donate those we get from our dental hygienist), tissues, Q-tips, sunblock, lip balms, combs, shower caps, sewing kits.

As the Executive Director of the center pointed out to us during our first visit, "Our clients are trying to get their lives back on track, many of whom have been in long-standing abusive relationships without any items such as these. Your donations, which might seem meager to you, will truly make a difference in their lives."

So now we are still traveling and collecting toiletries, but hoard for a good cause!

Please consider the YWCA and shelters. In our town, our Y becomes a nightime shelter in the winter for women and children. Soap, shampoo, and other items are needed. Please do call the shelters first to confirm what is needed! Great suggestion and great post!

Good idea. Don't know why I didn't think of doing this. I just throw the extra stuff in my bags and them unload after my trips and put the stuff in a larger bag and forget about it. I must have things I have been saving for five or six years or maybe longer.

I'm going to put make a note to call around and see if there are any local places that can use the stuff I have collected.

btw, -O-, I think I see some soap you pick up at Aranwa. I collected a bunch of their goodies on my last trip to Peru. What are the other interesting places you have in your collection?

Great post! I also travel for work so in a year, I accumulate hundreds of these little samples and take them to our homeless shelter. They say they are always in need of them.

I have been giving my hoarded articles to a local orphanage near our home - Philly has so many shelters, etc. that can all use stuff like this.

I am impressed so many of the community members actively donate their pilfered hotel toiletries. I am possibly not as relentless as some of you, but I do collect, save and contribute a fair amount of these items to a program I favor in my community.

I confess that I eat all of the chocolates collected during my travels.
