Fare compare was just listed in our local Sunday paper along with YAPTA. I haven't had a chance to check farecompare yet. WHat did you see as the difference in the two programs? I thought farecompare was more towards watching hypothetical trips while YAPTA watches your actual trip. Has anyone tried it yet?
bonniejoy03......the Wall Street Journal article basicallypoints outboth www.farecompare.comand www.yapta.com can trackhypotheticaltrips with some minor differences in what they can deliver (farecompare gives you the opportunity to key in trips and see which carriers offer service and their best prices.....the big plus with www.yapta.com , as you already know is the ability to get notified of fare reductions and then actualrefunds!

I tried farecompare.com. You put in two cities that you are interested in what their price was for the past year. It shows you the monthly average price of a ticket between the two points. Its a great tool to help determine if the price you plan to pay is on the high side or the low side. We go to Anguilla twice a year and pretty much know their fares to Anguilla or St. Maarten from about three East Coast cities. The statistics/prices they provided seemed in line with what we have paid over the years. Its a good tool if you are flying to a new destination.
bonniejoy03...we've saved the site in our favorites, since farecompare.com is just another tool to help us keep informed regarding potential air fares. So far, nothing beats YAPTA.com when it comes to actually saving money.
Thanks for the links, this is great information!
Your suggestions have saved me endless research time and great money! Thanks so much. Cheers...Marolyn
marolyn......farecompare http://www.farecompare.com/is our first stop when we start planning a trip involving air transportation....we haven't found an easier way to display and compare air fares. We actually prefer www.yapta.com to tag our trips for tracking price fluctuations.
Hi,
Another great site for comparing air fares and getting a good overview of fares and getting good deals as well is www.sidestep.com. You might want to give it a try.
Interesting post and quite timely. I was researching how to get to Treasure Caye in the Bahamas ( LL has a property up for bid called Bluff Beach and it is new and looked great!) I researched air and my search took me to fare compare. This was so convenient because it wasn't just looking at the major airlines but also the small airlines in the Bahamas/Florida area. I was quite impressed.
