Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
Hi bonniejoy,
I am glad you found sidestep.com - farecompare helpful. I think this is a valuable site when you do fare research. It lets you see at a glance who is going there, for how much and what the best departure times are to get the best price. I refer to it quite a bit.
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
Hello,
Sadly the fare tracking mechanism on Farecompare apparently only works for flights originating in the US. If any one has discovered a European equivalent, please let me know!
Cheers,
Julian
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
jashermd...the only Europen site, with similar functions, that immediatelycome to mind is TravelJungle http://www.traveljungle.co.uk/ However, I'm sure there are other similar sites out there floating around.
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
Hi O,
Thanks for your post -- I'll check traveljungle out. Interestingly, the fare comparison sites recommended by UK travel magazines are mostly the US-based ones like Kayak and Sidestep. They're great for price comparisons but I'd like to see if I'm getting a good deal on my flights, so it's a shame that Farecoimpare doesn't track flight prices for flights originating outside the US. I've dropped them an email -- maybe if enough people are interested they will start offering it.
Cheers,
Julian
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
hi jashermd. good for you dropping farecompare a note. in the meantime try www.airfarecompare.eu. see if this site does anything for you. sorry to be so short. i broke my wrist in a biking accident yesterday, and it is hunt and peck with one finger at the keyboard for now. surgery is scheduled for sometime this week.

Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
I don't know about the rest of you who have been tagging their air trips with yapta.com, but I haven't seen any reductions in fares recently. All I am seeing is increases. It is painfully obvious, the airlines continue to conspire to increase fares. Of course, I read the stories about increasing operating costs, but little or nothing is said about management pay structures and bonus payouts. One of them will eventually break down and drop some fares, then the rest will follow. There is always hope for cheaper fares.
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
I don't know why I didn't hear about YAPTA before joining this community. I have just loaded all of my upcoming business trips for the next six weeks. It will be interesting to see what develops. Thanks to each of you for your comments and suggestions.
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
marolyn, even with the recent increases in air fares by several US carriers, I am still scoring savings on my business travel (I don't have time for leisure travel at present)using yapta.com.I really have to pay attention to the email notifications I received on my tagged fares, since the fares have been extremelyvolatile in the past month or so. This site has to be the best travel tip I have picked up since joining the community.
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
OMG, even with yapta.com and the other comparison sites, the only direction my fares are moving is UP!
Re: Air Fares (farecompare.com & yapta.com)
mountie...we feel your pain regarding rising air fares!
The upcoming round of carrier consolidations willcertainly result in elimination of duplicate flights, meaning fewer seats and continuing rising costs (with the elimination of competition).
We've been playing the points/miles game trying to line up some award upgrade seats for use later this year and are already findingfew planes andseats translates to more difficulty in securing upgrades from coach to business/first seats.
More challenges for the business and leisure traveler.
