Re: Auction Request
Hi O,
LL must get some percentage of what the property gets auctioned off for as well as the $20 listing fee. I'm sure it's similar to the Ebay model which obviously works with much higher volumes. We probably won't ever be privy to that information unless of course LL decided to go public in an IPO.

Re: Auction Request
hi e
I see that it's now been almost two weeks since your original post to the LL Moderator and that there's not been a reply yet. I guess they've been busy, so I'd like to add my support for your suggestion.
It makes a lot of sense to have the opportunity on LLfor an auction request. Not only would this help folks like you and me who may be looking for a property in a part of the world where LL doesn't now have any offered on their auctions oreven "Buy Now" pages. But, it would also provide Ll with a terrific barometer for indicating where its members are interested in traveling. This in turn, would give them apretty good bargaining tool when they approach owners of resorts/properties with a view to having their places listed on LL.

Re: Auction Request
7...if I were to place a bet.....I think LL probably requires the properties to give away a certain number of vacations in order to receive placement on the auction pages. I'm betting LL retains all of the revenue generated, up to some point, at which they may share something with the actual property. I think LL just tacks on the extra $20 fee to generate additional revenue. I can't see LL dealing with their overhead and trying to operating a profitable business under a different arrangement....the "Best Buys" are probably on a commission basis!enewseven wrote:

Re: Auction Request
Hi O,
I guess if it doesn't cost the resorts too much to give away a 5 night or 7 night stay to bring people in and maybe make up for the cost in their restaurants/bars. However, I also no nothing is ever free, especially when someone else is distributing their product for them(LOL for the resorts). My guess is that LOL is buying at a block of rooms or packages at a below wholesale prices and offering then out in the form of an auction at just above wholesale plus all the extras that they throw in as incentives and clearing the difference plus the fee. I'm sure there are so many different ways to structure these deals. Keep in mind also, that they are making these deals with the top resorts in the world and not the local Howard Johnson's

Re: Auction Request
Hi O,
I too have spoken to the owner of one of the properties we loved in Italy but got rather quickly rebuffed on booking and paying in full with them directly a year in advance for the same LL package terms. If it would be true that LL pockets the full fee, I think the property/owner would have jumped at my offer. So I am not sure what you suggest is true. But I have no idea how LL works in regard to the various auction offerings. I am sure, LL would not go into the details with us here on this board.

Re: Auction Request
lhb...I believe the basis of the LL presentation (and their Internet traffic counts) is their ability to promote the venue world-wide and drive additional business to the venue. My guess is that most venues would pass on a offer from and individual for full pay on their LL auction price.....that amounts to simply selling deeply discounted rooms with no prospects of Internet exposure.lhbrown wrote:

Hi O,
True, having someone purchase an identical package without going through LL "would amount to simply selling deeply discounted rooms with no prospects of Internet exposure", but what about repeat customers and word of mouth recommendations..... Well, I did not push the issue and was content, that the property was loyal to LL

Re: Auction Request
I'm still hoping that an LL moderators read through this tread in the hope that we will soon be able to start requesting auctions or giving LL an indication of interest in a particular resort or location. This would accomplish more efficiency in my opinion as long as it is used by serious customers and is of course not abused.

Re: Auction Request
7....my guess is that the LL moderators are monitoring all of the threads at this point. The LL Community has certainly flooded the LL moderators with ideas....so there is probably some "catch up" going on. One thing we know for sure, we are starting to get direct responses to some of our ideas and suggestions from LL moderators....implementations of some of our suggestionsmay be following in the near future.enewseven wrote:

I noticed in an email I received from LL yesterday, they are going to unveil a "zero" starting price auction shortly.....that sounds like an innovation!- Ω -

Re: Auction Request
Hi O,
I saw that announcement as well, I'm curious to find out how long these offerings will go on for (3 days or 3 weeks?) . The no reserve auction can end up being a great deal for LL customers, and I would imagine really create a good word of mouth advertising program. Imagine winning a $5000 package for $1000, would be great !!!
