Re: Awasi
Thanks O. Great updates on a lot of lovely properties. I believe the Awasi package is for the superior round rooms. Looking at the rates, they are different from the rectangular rooms across the road. So, we should be in the group of rooms but not sure. Finally finished the Chile trip!! Changed plans and ideas but I think it will be wonderful.

Re: Awasi
Decided to read the information in this link http://www.luxurylatinamerica.com/chile/awasi.html
The following sentence justjumped off thecomputer monitor:
"The cabana doubles as a cozy dining option, or when curtains are drawn, a romantic spot for a couples massage, with the soothing background sounds of nearby fountains."
What kind of place are you going to, bonniejoy03? Awasi sounds like more than a place to park your luggage during this visit!t-2-f

Re: Awasi
secrets, secrets, secrets!!! Only kidding. It is a very nice respectable place. No worries!! (I do like how you zoned in on that option!)
Can't wait to go back to Chile though Virgin Gorda and Costa Rica prior to the trip (oh yeah, and a few trips to the Chesapeake bay for some great seafood!)

bonniejoy03 & -O-, just read an article on the driest places in the world and guess what was #1? Yep, it the Atacama desert where Awasi is located. What's the attraction of being that dry? Maybe I spend too much time in humidity.

Re: Awasi
Hi M.....Great place to visit and something completely different, that is my reason to visit. Also, it isn't as touristy as some spots so thought we would get to visit before the masses found out! Now, onwards to Virgin Gorda and let's hope we stay dry!!

Re: Awasi
mountie...you're 100% correct about the Atacama Desert being a dry place....but the region is dotted with a number of oases, one of which is the very fertile region around San Pedro de Atacama, which is where Awasi is located. Most people, ourselves included, try to plan their excursion for early mornings or late afternoons.....still hot, but not like mid-day. It is a place of huge contrasts and vivid colors.
Even through the region is a very popular adventure tourism destination, it is so expansive, once you leave San Pedro, and venture only a few miles, it is easy to feel like you are alone on a distant planet.
If you ever find your way to that part of the world, The Atacama is a not-to-be-missed experience.
bonniejoy03 will likely have a detailed report upon her return.- Ω -

I don't mean to be picky, but any chance we can continue all ofthe Central & S. America threads in the Destinations - Central & S. America section of the community instead of the General and Tips Sections?

shygirl724, I don't consider your observation picky. On the other hand, since this thread was begun as a tip regarding the new property of Awasi in Chile, I appreciated the fact my attention was drawn to it. I am also pleased to have learned bonniejoy03 has purchased an auction package to visit this property next year and that omegaet has visited the area. Since Chile is a country which holds interest to me, I enjoy what the two of them have posted here.
So, for my part, I appreciate the thread was opened under ths catagory, I might have missed the information otherwise. For me there has been some meaningful exchanges regarding the destination.
Over the years, there have been some discussion of further consolidation of threads with common themes. If Katie or one of the other moderators choose to move this thread to Central & South America, I will glady following along and continue to exchange comments.
Until that time, should it occur - well
