Can A Referral Credit & Promo Code Be Combined or Not?

Have the terms for using a referral credit and a promo code in the same purchase transaction changed AGAIN?! It was only a few days ago that I confirmed in another thread that both a credit and promo code could be used together.

To make sure that both can be used, I decided to test the Buy Now option on a 4 night stay that totaled over $1100. On the invoice page it shows that my $50 credit was automatically deducted off the price. So far so good. I then entered a promo code that would take another discount off the final price. The system allowed me to use the promo code, however, it removed my $50 credit at the same time and said:

"Credit on file removed. You cannot combine promotional credit with Promo Code XXX."

I know for a fact that a friend of mine (who referred me to LL) was able to use both a credit and a promo code not that long ago. So I am very shocked that something has changed. I truly feel that using BOTH a credit and a promo code should be permitted for 1st time purchases since the credit can only be used that one time. Being able to use both together was the biggest incentive for me to try LL.

What does everyone else think about these changes that do not appear to be announced anywhere? I keep trying to obtain up-to-date info so that I am not hit with any surprises along the way, which is rather difficult when the rules keep changing behind the scenes, ugh!

Hi L. Not familiar that you can use both. I did follow your link.

LL customer service-what is the answer? Can both be used? Do you have to call in to customer service to receive the credit?

Yes, you could definitely use both a referral credit and a promo code together. I am so disappointed in the cut-backs on LL! Not only have they reduced the referral credit from $100 to $50 (that I missed out on), it also appears they are no longer allowing 1st time buyers to use this credit with a promo code. This all translates into a significant loss of money and incentive for the 1st time purchaser.

I think the problem you encountered, if I understand what happened, is that you tried to apply two offers that were for specific dollar amounts. The author of the article applied a percentage discount to a fixed rate discount. Do you think that was the cause of your problem in booking two discounts?

You cannot use a Refer a Friend credit in addition to a promotional code. However, you are allowed to use a gift certificate along with a promotion code.

Thanks for your reply. I do have some additional questions regarding the use of Referral Credits that I am hoping you can answer for me.

1) If I choose to use a Promo Code (which will eliminate my $50 Referral Credit from my account) does the person who referred me still receive a $50 credit when I make my first purchase?

2) Can I use a Referral Credit that I received after a friends first purchase with a promo code or gift certificate? Or are Referral Credits exempt from all discounts for both new & existing customers?

3) Are there any other purchase restrictions with the Referral Credits? For example, if I have $200 of RC in my account can I use the entire amount towards a single purchase?

I'm sure Katie will answer you soon. My experience in regard to # 3: all of my $200 referral credit was automatically deducted from one LL purchase. Whatever you buy, enjoy and have fun!

Thank you! This is good to know. Can you tell that I'm anxious to make a purchase and want to have all the info I need before I proceed, lol. ;)
