Getting To Peru
Any Community Member.......contemplating an auction package to Peru later this year. Spirit Airlines http://www.spiritair.com/welcome.aspx has just received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to offer nonstop flights from Fort Lauderdale to Lima, Peru. You might want to save their web site and check back in a few weeks for their initial announcement and opening promotional fares. Their service isprojected to begin in late Spring or early Summer of 07.
As a frequent traveler in and out of South Florida, you can be assured the Fort Lauderdale Airport is a much more efficient and pleasant experience than Miami International (especially passing through Immigrations and Customs). We dont work for Spirit Airlines, but we certainly enjoy their friendly in-flight service and new modern planes.

Re: Getting To Peru
Hi O,
Thanks for this tip! After reading about the experiences that others on this board have had at Machu Picchu, we're thinking about a trip to that part of the world. I see there are some great packages with Inkaterra, and I'll also watch for the Orient Express offerings. We could actually make a convenient stop in Florida and do the flight to Lima from Fort Lauderdale. So this kind of information is very useful. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this. I will stay tuned to see if Spirit will perhaps offer any special introductory rates.
That, combined with seeing the O-E Peru package offered on LL again would make me very, very happy!

Re: Getting To Peru
It is interesting toobserve the increased tourism budget being allocated by the country of Peruhttp://www.peru.info/perueng.aspspecifically targeted to encourage English speaking visitors to their country. Who ever or what ever entity is setting this strategy has determined the continuing unfavorable currency relationship between the dollar and the Euro represents a huge opportunity to capitalize on the availability of increased visitors. Too bad LL isn't currently offering the Orient Express Peru packages, but the Inkaterra packages still look pretty good.

04-21-2007, 04:03 PMInka's Empire Tours -- Orient-Express services at lower cost...
Take a look at Inka's Empire Tours in the "Buy Now Offers" and "The Portfolio". They started offering private tours with Orient-Express hotels, trains and restaurants long before Orient-Express itself did (which was only last year). Service is excellent (see "Quotes from Our Guests") and prices are actually lower than Orient-Express charges (especially considering that Inka's throws in the travel insurance). May not be as cheap as an auction, but at least you can "buy now"...

Pachacutec....it certainly appears you are soliciting business for Inka Empire Tours, since you have only made two postings and both of them arehyping Empire Tours. If, in fact, you are a newcommunity member and have taken or are interesting in taking a trip to Peru and want to useInkaterra, then why not elaborate?

Does anyone know if the recent earthquake in Peru caused any damage to Machu Picchu? It's sad to read about the loss of life. I was really thinking about trying to use my $500 VIP Certificate and make a trip down there later this year. Now I'm not so sure!

Re: Getting To Peru
Hi Mountie. Good point. We also were going to go with Inkaterra to Peru but backed out due to the time of year we could go and the weather. (January). From what I have read, Machu Picchu area has been spared. If you want to go and want to use Inkaterra, I would call them (toll free number). I spoke with them numerous times about planning a trip. They were quite helpful and provided us with excellent options. Finding anything on the internet might not be as specific as contacting the properties you want to use. Good luck. We hope to try this tour again sometime during better weather!

Re: Getting To Peru
Hi Bonniejoy-03,
Peru just got hit by a massive earthquake. How will that affect the Inkaterra trips? Also, what about Hurrican Dean that came through Jamaica - will that affect your September trip to Virgin Gorda.... We had been to Virgin Gorda at one point shortly after a hurrican had gone through and the grass on the Little Dix lawn an all the nearby trees were just brown from the salt spray...

At least you know the rocks at Spring bay and the Baths will be ok. Hope the rest of the islands fare well. May you get good weather, too.
