02-07-2011, 10:23 PMHello and a (probable) dumb question
Hello, all.
I've been lurking on this site for about a year, and have finally decided to take the plunge. I've saved up enough to take a few great trips, and will hopefully be using Luxury Link for the arrangements. The community on here seems very helpful and insightful, and I hope to take advantage of all of you.
My dumb question is this. I'm a single guy, and will be travelling alone. I know that the price listed on the auctions is for 2 people (or 4, or 8). Will I have to pay a supplement if I travel alone? A lot of other travel sites have the solo supplement, but haven't seen anything on LL.
Thanks for any information that you can provide. I look forward to talking with everyone about wonderful travel ideas.

If the pkg is for 2 people you pay that price for one person. You need to consider that many properties won't give you two of every perk, tho. Some actually specify terms like that. Just ask and see what they will do. We bought a pkg for 4 ( 2BR villa) and they split the dinners and massages into two by two. We also got a choice of one or 2 BR on arrival based on availability. That was only one example where it worked for us. I think some other members can add 2$ (inflation!)
Welcome; glad you aren';t just lurking now!!Last edited by kyshel; 02-08-2011 at 02:11 AM.

Hi...we did a family getaway package for four. There was only two of us so instead of two double beds, we received a king size bed. That is just another example of your options. You might want to check with LL customer service BEFORE you bid to see what the property might be able to do for you individually. Welcome to the community! PS- where is the destination?

02-08-2011, 09:58 AMThank you both for the quick replies!
I am overjoyed that there is no additional fee for travelling solo. I never would have thought to call the property itself to try to arrange keeping the same perks. I was just hoping I could get the same price. This sounds amazing.
As far as location, I haven't actually decided yet. I've never had the chance to travel internationally, and am still waiting for my passport to arrive. I was really looking at Turkey, but the location I was looking at (Mardan Palace) doesn't currently have an auction. I've also been looking at Greece, Thailand, and Indonesia. Honestly, I just want to go everywhere. Does anyone have winning lottery numbers they can pass my way?
This thread may not be the place for this, but is there somewhere in particular that you've gone that you would recommend? I've been reading individual threads all over the board, but wondered if there was one place that stood out for you.

ahunter5,
Congratulations on deciding to take the LL plunge. you will not regret it. I know I did the same as you, lurking for at least a year before my first purchase. Now LL is my AM "fix" every day. lol.
There are so many great places to go and things to do. What types of things interest you - history? culinary tours? beaches? individual vs. group activities? It would help us give better answers.
In the meantime, here are 2 previous LL community threads giving suggestions for solo travel:

02-08-2011, 03:08 PMHi, Shy.
I jump on LL every night when I get a break at the office. It's definitely addictive. I took a look at the links you suggested. Some great ideas there -- thanks!
As far as what interests me, pretty much everything you said sounds great. I live in a pretty rural area (central Pennsylvania), so I've experienced very little in the way of culture outside of short trips DC, Pittsburgh, Vegas, and Chicago. Culinary tours sound great. I dig beaches, too. I'm fascinated by other cultures, so historical tours sound awesome, too. I'd imagine that most of what I do will be alone, so the group activities won't make a difference either way for me.
What trips have you all taken that have been especially enjoyable? Also, I just found the blog feature. Some great info there as well. Thanks so much for everyone taking the time to share.

Hi A....From Central PA, the world is open to you!!! You have great airports all relatively close by. Think about traveling off season; that would save money. For example, Europe in fall/winter/spring, South America in our summer, etc. As to activities, you can hook up with groups once you arrive somewhere so, you wouldn't be traveling with a group the entire trip just for sections. The LL community is a wealth of knowledge so please, throw out some of your ideas and we can help put some ideas together!

ahunter5....you have a variety of travelers here in the community, with a long list of favorite destinations and experiences. Maybe you could give us an idea of what type of travel experience you are contemplating, possible length of your journey and closest international gateway airport. If we know that type of information, we might be able to offer better or more realistic suggestions.

02-09-2011, 12:30 PMI will suggest Croatia, because it was one of my favorite trips. The downside is that flights from the US are usually expensive and long. Hvar and Split were really nice. Nice people, great food, and just beautiful. I didn't go to Dubrovnik but I've heard it's amazing. I stayed at the Amfora Grand in Hvar and I noticed LL has packages there sometimes. It was a great hotel with amazing views.
