Help With Overlapping Auction Dates

Hello Everyone! I am new to LL and require some help from the experienced users of this site. I would love to bid on a 4 night auction that interests me, however, the dates I require are not all contained in one auction period and are split, or overlap, between two consecutive auctions.

Two of my travel dates are at the very end of one auction date range, which means the remaining two nights fall into the next auction period (that is more expensive). Is this an example of overlapping dates? I noticed the verbiage at the top of each auction page that references 'overlapping dates' and to call the LL concierge service for assistance.

Before I call, I would like to know if others have gone through a similar situation where the dates for the auction they wanted overlapped two auctions and how they handled it. I do not want to use the Buy Now feature (too expensive) and am only interested in bidding on the auctions (if I can?).

Hi there and welcome to the LL forum. If your dates are that specific you will also need to check availability with the property before bidding. Please note that availability at time of bidding doesn't necessarily mean that it will still be available when the auction closes. Make sure you refer to the LL package when you ask about availability.

If you have no flexibility with your dates, the buy now option would probably be best.

Don't hesitate to call the LL concierge. They are very helpful and will sort your problem out in no time!

I forgot to mention that at this specific point in time, the hotel has availability for my dates.

I don't recall seeing anything in the forum regarding your situation. I wouldn't want to misinform you. Calling the concierge would be your best bet.

I am surprised that this situation hasn't been discussed in the forum before. I can't be the only person who has encountered this dilemma. I will call the LL concierge to discuss the matter further and then report back here with the outcome. Hopefully my experience will help others who find themselves dealing with the same problem.

Hopefully, LL Concierge will be able to help. I don't recall a similar incident. One way of dealing with the dilemma would be to charge 2 nights at the lower rate and 2 nights at the higher rate. However, this would be a decision between LL Concierge and the hotel and you.

Thank you for the welcome. I have thought the exact same thing and agree that a solution would be to charge 2 nights from each auction. I am hoping that LL and the hotel can work together to make this happen. If there was a way to select 2 nights from each auction date range, I would do so.

Actually I would think differently. With this situation, you usually have 2 different timeframes with different prices, often a higher price for the dates in the "high season". I have encountered this and thought that bidding for the higher priced timeframe would be the safer strategy to get my exact dates.

I haven't bid on one of these yet, but thought if I did, I would call the hotel directly to ask about paying for the higher timeframe but having a couple days in the lower cost timeframe.....and of course I'd call them anyway to check on availability.

It would be even better if they would allow for it to be split but there's no real way to bid an auction that way.

jmbklj ~ I would prefer it the other way around and buy the less expensive auction, lol. This is a pricey auction as it is (over $1100) and I will have to stretch the budget to accommodate 2 nights at the higher rate. Paying for 4 nights at the higher rate doesn't look very promising.

It's situations like these that deter people from making a purchase on LL. I tend to explore all my options before I walk away from cases like this, however, most people do not. This might explain why there is so little info about similar scenarios in the forum.
