Re: How do I pay for an auction?
Hi mary-j, I think you can use a debit card. This should not be a problem. However, I think it would be safer to use your credit card. You have more control over your credit card. With a credit card you can stop/withhold a payment or dispute a payment, with a debit card the money is gone out of your account and it is a lot harder to get someone to put the money back into your account Furthermore, with a credit card you have about 20 days before the bill becomes due. I have never been a friend of debit cards. I recently ordered something and received the wrong order plus was charged for the wrong order. I returned the item and withheld payment with an explanation to my credit card company. If I had used a debit card, I would be out of the money and would have to wait till the vendor is ready to return the money to me... I feel I have more control using my credit card. Think about it.

I keep my credit card on file, but make sure you update it with current information, like the expiration date. We won and auction while we were out of town and our cc was not up to date and they couldn't get in touch with us so we forfeited it and can not have this happen again or we can not bid on any auctions. So we are very careful. I usually call too just because it is part of my makeup.

Hi Debbie,
Ouch - this was an unfortunate incident. Always make sure that when you receive your new credit card with the new expiration date to inform the vendors of the new expiration date whom you allow to automatically access your credit card account. Charges will not go through if the Exp. Date is not up to date. I guess this was a hard lesson to learn. Better luck next time.

Make sure you know what is your daily spending limit on your Debit card. I just bought through LL on my debit card and I had to call my bank to raise my daily limit because the package was more than my Bank allowed.

I have purchased a couple of dozen packages through the years from LL. You can keep two credit cards on file and leave instructions as to which you want used normally. So, if you have trouble with one, then the other can be used. Payments are deducted immediately whether you use the package next week or next year. You also could leave one debit and one credit card on file. I have never had a problem with the charges.

For LL luxury items, the charges are immediate although some items are not shipped by LL but rather by the merchant. Since my credit card info. was on file with LL, my card was charged immediately, and I was excited about receiving the item immediately. I had to practice patience, and the LL staff kept me appraised of the status of my shipment. This item was ordered at least 6 months ago. On a more recent item that I won during 2007, the shipment was immediate, and I was pleasantly surprised. Cheers...Marolyn

You are really apatient customer...this experiencejust dosen't seem right! I mean you've already waited 6 months, I'm not sure that I might still want it or need it for that matter after all that time.
