La Mansion Inn
I've noticed La Mansion Inn up for auction(closes today) and at the moment is going for $535 for 5nights. I wonder if I would be allowed to use my $500 certificate, which would mean I would only pay $35. Now that is what I would call a good deal!!!

Hi mary-j,
Yes, I'm sure you would be able to use your certificate. There is no minimum purchase required. Such a deal!

Re: La Mansion Inn
Hi Mary J. Definitely you can use it! We used it for Finca Blanca Rosa in Costa Rica. When will you be going? I have heard wonderful things about the property. We actually would have used it but we only needed 3 nights to add on to our Punta Islia trip. We are going back there in November. Enjoy!

Hi Mary
Did you bid...did you get it! I'm sure everything would be fine with the certificate. Hope you remembered the post of either bonnie or disneygal to call in and mention that you wanted to use the certificate before bidding so that they don't use you credit card instead. Good luck,

Re: La Mansion Inn
Unfortunately I missed it as I was working night duty last night and was so tired this morning I went straight to bed and totally forgot all about it. I will keep my eyes open to see if it comes up again.

Hi Mary
It's okay, don't worry Mary, it will come back. That happens to me too sometimes...I am looking forward to bidding, the next thing you know it's to late. Most of the time it does show up again. Or there is another way of looking at it, maybe there is something better for you coming up!

Re: La Mansion Inn
there have been multiple offers for La Mansion Inn. I've seen both the Pres Suite offer and the OV suite deal and both are well-priced for the luxury. Their meals are a bit pricey; they'll email you a sample menu, tho, so you can get an idea of their fare. It looks excellent on paper! Of course, with a car, the local restaurants are at your fingertips (as long as you don't drink too much!)
If you go, please toast us all at the bat cave bar!"wherever you go, there you are"

Re: La Mansion Inn
Yes, I've been keeping an eye on them but not quite ready to bid yet as lots going on at home and getting ready for going on holiday, so I'm hoping they come back up at a good price once we return from Thailand. They were for only 3 nights and I was wanting to stay for a week so was going to contact them to see about buying extra nights or trying for two auctions on them and seeing if I could put them together for the one stay. Don't worry, if I do get the chance to go to La Mansion Inn, I will certainly have a drink for you in the bat-cave. It sounds really weird but very different. It will definately beone of the first places we check out.
Cheers.

I went to La Mansion and wanted to just tell everyone that it is wonderful whether you get a normal suite or any other. The view is spectacular and it is well worth the money. It is a little tough to get to. I would recommend having a car service take you to the hotel, unless you are a solidly good driver. The roads are not fantastic and the conditions are tough. If you must rent a car, I would suggest paying up for a better SUV as the drive from San Jose is not pleasant.
Alternatively, the hotel will have a taxi pick you up from the local airport. Be forwarned. It is a rain forest and during rainy season there is a high probability that you will not be able to fly out, in which case you will wait until morning for the next flight. Plan on taking the earliest flight out to make it for sure in San Jose for your international flights.
Otherwise, all the activities you would do will pick you up at the hotel and there's not a true need for transport if you plan your day accordingly. As far as tours go, you could go down to the beach and negotiate a cheaper price with the local vendors. However, they will probably be brokering the slightly lower quality tours. Not to say these tours are bad. However, if you are not on a budget, I highly recommend asking the hotel concierge to tell you who the current best tour operators are. You'll get a slightly better lunch, slightly better transport and slightly better service. It might be the difference of $10 per person per tour, but it was worth it to me.
And finally, many people warned me about rainy season and how it wasn't ideal. The reality is that Costa Rica is a rain forest so about 1/2 the year it's rainy season. And it makes little difference as the rain is warm - so long as you are not in San Juan. Happy travels.

Re: La Mansion Inn
Thank you so much for telling us about your visit. I still have not booked La mansion inn, but, i keep looking at it and I definately want to go and stay there. At the moment I am looking at safaris, but La mansion is definately in the running too. What puts me off slightly is the journey there from the UK. So you reckon even the lower category rooms are excellent too? I had been looking at the higher category ones, but maybe it is not really worth paying the extra money? What do you think? Would the higher category rooms not have better views? Do you know if the balconies/terraces are much larger on the higher category rooms?
If you don't mind, if i have any other questions about it, can I just ask you?
Cheers,
Mary-j
