More Free Air Miles

How about having your dad open a new credit card account with Citibank AAdvantage Platnum Mastercard. They give 25000 miles just for opening the account. You have to spend $750 within 4 months, but 25000 miles as a reward is pretty good. Combine these miles with your dad's current miles that are in danger of expiring and you have probably enough miles to get you to the Caribbean since your Dad can sign the trip miles over to you as the person who will do the actual flying. If your dad doesn't spend $750 in 4 months, have him buy something you want and you can always reimburse him for it. Just a thought on how not to lose your dad's AA miles.

Good suggestion you made to bonniejoy about ways to maximize the benefits of a Citibank Platinum Master card for air travel. On the same subject, people interested in maxing their credit card benefits as quickly as possible may want to take a close look at the following credit/debit card scenario I've been using for the fast few months to rack up an impressive number of air travel rewards at a much faster rate than before:
AIR MILES CARD: I present this to all retailers who honour it whenever I pay for a purchase or service (gets me a minimum of ONE AIR MILEfor every $10 spent and often more when retailers have a special promotion)MOSAIK MASTER CARD: I then pay for each purchase with this special credit cardthat earns me an additional AIR MILE for every $15 charged to it for goods or services (it's accepted at virtually all retailers and service providers in the USA and Canada)BMO DEBIT CARD: this special card issued by the Bank of Montreal is the only one to-date that awards one AIR MILE for every $40 paid for using the debit card, instead of a credit card (it gives me another payment option for those rare situations when a credit card is not accepted, and still earns me some air travel rewards). Don't know if this type of debit card is available from USA banks.
In a bit overthree months of "normal" spending, I've accrued just over 1,600 AIR MILES, which is enough for a return flight anywhere in the Continental USA and Canada. Now, I just have to decide where I want to fly!

Sounds like you have discovered another excellent way of racking up miles for free trips. Keep up the good work, and it won't be too difficult to decide where to fly next.

Hi Kyshel Thansk for the information. There is a fee to transfer miles. It almost costs the same as buying miles yourself! If he had enough for a free ticket for one of us, there wouldn't be a fee to "buy" a ticket with points for one of us. The problem is transferring the miles to us in the interim. He likes his Discover Card and he loves getting cash back so hate to see him switch. He also does have a Hilton Honors Visa. I researched and he is eligible for one free hotel night at a mid hotel. My mother loved to travel that is why this card had been set up. This card also makes the monthly medical payment and he uses it for companies that don't take Discover. (There are a few out there. I believe his cruise line, Majestic, only accepts MC and VISA.). I don't want to worry about reestablishing his auto charge. I will call the company to see if there is a points systerm on an airline vs. Hiltons. (Unless someone out there knows about the Hilton Honors CC????)

I'm quite amazed how quickly air miles reward points are accumulating now that I'm using the new strategy. In just the past two months alone, we;ve earned as many points toward air travel as we normally did in six months before. And, all this is happening without us spending any more money than we did on a monthly basis in the past. It's terrific and now we just have to figure out where we want to fly next.

My feelings exactly. As a resident of Canada, I too run into many a situation in which it's impossible for me to participate in different on-line offerings. It's really grustrating especially when one thinks that the Internet has no borders and doesn't care about nationalities. So, I too say GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
