Hi,
My rating system does not work. Is anybody having the same problem? I can click on the rating numbers, but after it comes back, no ratings appear. Is this a new change on LL Community board?

Hello,
I've had this problem for a long time, along with a concurrent one in which every time I log in all the posts I have rated last time now show as unrated. Personally I've pretty much abandoned the rating system as it tends to eat up time which I'd rather spend reading and posting about travel, and the ratings often bear so little resemblance to the quality / helpfulness of the posts that it's a bit laughable.
Cheers,
Julian
I agree with jashermd. Personally, I don't find any value in the rating system. I'm sometimesbewildered by a low rating on what I perceive as a worthwhile post. Not every topic is going to interest everyone, so I try to just ignore the ratings and focus on what has value for me.
Hear hear! The ratings system does nothing for me, personally, and I highly doubt it really has much bearing for the LL moderators either. Perhaps the non-functioning system is a change to get rid of it?
Sounds good to me -- I've put a suggestion to this effect on the suggestions board with a link to this thread. Who knows -- maybe it will disappear for good!
Cheers,
Julian
LL-Travelfan, I've never used the rating system in this community and I have no interest in rating or being rated.
Many of us think that the ratings don't add to the LL forum experience, particularly when there are people who rate low for spiteful purposes. Sad, but true.
Hi,
I still find the rating system working very sporatically and I agree, it is disheartening when rating low is used for spiteful purposes. Sad, but true, I echo your sentiments....
LL_Editor, why not just eliminate the rating option for the entire community? Several member seem to be obsessing on "rating," apparently in hopes of furthering their chances for attaining the coveted VIP Contributor status and the $250 bonus. On the other hand, it appears a majority of the community spends time here sharing travel experiences, suggestions and ideas. It just seems like the latter makes sense and will continue to foster healthy growth and participation. Those of us in the work place today, get rated enough in competing to remain employed, without facing the same senseless stress in thisforum. As for liking or not liking what people post, we can just handle those matters through PMs and not subject the remainder of the community to our bickerings.
In my experience, I don't know that LL depends primarily on the ratings to make a person a VIP member. I do think it would be good to not make them visable. It probably does help LL know better what is helpful and what is not.
For newer members, I think concentrating on writing reviews that others will find helpful or providing travel advice that is salient to the community will get you to VIP status. At least that is my idealistic hope that that is how the system works.
