New Federal Inspection Service MIA
There's some good news for anyone planning an international arrival into MIA later this year (probably sometime after early September).
The new 'monster' Federal Inspection Service facility should be open for service and will be a huge improvement, especially for arrival from Central and South America.
This is one more important step toward improving one of my love/hate 'home airports.'
Notes:
- 78 lanes that will be able to process 2,000 passengers per hour
- six dedicated lanes for Global Entry

this would be nice since I will be arriving from CR in November through MIA and will be using my Global Entry for the 1st time! So far all my international entries back into the states have been via Houston - here's hoping global Entry and all the little things that the TSA says they will be doing to help travellers will come to fruition in many airports in the USA

Just used my GE for Mexico return. I put the GE number in as "trusted traveler" and still got the SSSS designation in ATL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH I tried to check in for our flights online (we were both on the same reservation listing) but I was not allowed. When we arrived at ATL to do kiosk check-in, I saw the dreaded SSSS. (I think of it as SS Squared) I had to go to a separate scan line, have my bags pulled AFTER screening, thoroughly searched AGAIN--EVERY pocket, EVERY garment, too--screening and gate check. BUT--Global Entry took 1 1/2 minutes at immigration--no forms, etc. Just the TSA (Thousands Standing Around) gave me grief (while I had my GE card in my hand and my passport opened to the CBP stamp...GO FIGGER!!!

How long is the Global Entry card valid? 1 year, 10 years?
