New to LL - I've won an auction, why does the hotel need my credit card number too?

Hi

I'm new to luxury link and i've one my 1st auction today. So excited!

I emailed the place to tell them I won the auction and I asked how to make a reservation. They said to call with my credit card information to make a deposit. I'm confused, I thought the auction took care of the price. Why does the hotel need a deposit too?

Please clarify. I want to book soon to reserve the dates I want.

What hotel? Did you give them the LuxuryLink confirmation number when you spoke with them (did you received a corfirmation email from LL with a contact name at the hotel)?

The Fond Doux Planation. I was just emailing them back and forth to make sure the dates i wanted were available. When i won, i asked what they needed from me and they metioned a credit card for a deposit. I did receive a LL confirmation email


i'm new to this....is the confirmation number the same as the Ticket reference number? i dont think it is the hotels fault, I emailed their main desk, not the email or phone number LL provided.

if the ticket reference number is all i need to prove my LL auction, i will be calling them today to confirm. i would love to here back from you first. just for reassurance that i'm doing this correctly.

meatbal23....we've bought and used about 19 - 20 LL auction packages....so we have a system we use (others may handle their reservations differently). We send an email (a cut and paste of the email we receive from LL)to the contact person indicated in the confirmation we receive from LL, at the time of notification we are the winning bid. LL has generally already sent the contact person an email with our names. Often the hotel will request a credit card number to simply "hold" the reservations....we've never had a problem with any properties misusing our credit card information. It is possible you are a bit "early" in contacting the resort, since LL may not have dispatched them notification as yet, since the auction closed over the weekend.Message Edited by omegaet on 06-01-2009 08:40 AM

I checked with our customer service dept. and this is what I found out:

Eventhough the hotels are aware that the auctions are paid in full -hotelreservation systems often times can not technically make a reservationwithout the inclusion of a credit card. The card will not be charged,but will only serve as a reservation guarantee.

We found that it is quite customary, in Europe at least, for the hotels (even when prepaid with LL packages) to ask for a credit card upon check in. It seems it facilitates accounting for them, if you like to charge items from the mini-bar and/or restaurant or spa treatments.

we have recently started a new booking/reservation process as well.

if you haven't given the hotel your CC yet, call LL customer service, explain to them how you won an auction, etc. and they will take it from there.

you may have to give the hotel your CC to 'hold' the reservation but check with LL customer service first (Jim or Jackie).

I just won an auction and LL did the entire reservation for us - I just had to put our preferred dates in. Not sure if it's dependent on the property.

Hi V . This is relatively new and wonderful! LL will do all the work for you. It saves a lot of time and also assures the reservation is made. It assists many of our foreign travellers or foreign properties. (overcomes time zones, communications, methods of contact, etc.) We are fortunate to have Jim and Jackie assist us!! (and kudos to them for doing this extra!!)





PS- I believe this is for all properties now.
