A family of which we know 4 generations of, found a daughter meeting and marrying a Peruvian (now US citizen) in CA. When she went to Peru for the church wedding, the groom's parents pulled all the stops out for the brides family, including food. Rose said the food was very tasty, a bit too hot for her and also much too salty. Required lots of beer to wash it down!
So much of Peru is about the Andes; the couple had their honeymoon at a beautiful ocean side resort (judging by the pictures.)
Great website BTW - lots to explore.

Re: Peru In Your Plans?
shininglight.....of course so many images of "Peru" involve the Andes and Machu Picchu and many first time travelers to the county arrive in Lima, transfer to a flight to Cusco, overnight and take the train to Aguas Caliente, ride the bus to the top and tour the citadel....and tell their friends they have seen Peru. There is a great deal more to do and see....as well as great dining throughout the country.
Glad you enjoyed the link to Audry and Daniel's web site.....it is packed with information and spectacular images from their continuing trip around the world.- Ω -

I noticed this information posted on the Perurail web site. I was actually thinking about one of the Mach Picchu packages for this year, but now I'm in a wait and see mode.
AIRLIFT BETWEEN OLLANTAYTAMBO AND MACHUPICCHUCusco, January 28th 2010.- Today, the airlift implemented by the Peruvian Goverment to evacuate visitors and residents from Machupicchu town to Ollantaytambo and Cusco Airport, transported 1,402 persons, on 92 flights.
EVACUATED 1,402 PERSONS
PeruRail collaborated on the operations providing bus transfer between Ollantaytambo and Cusco, for 1,150 persons free of charge.
The Peruvian Army took control of Machupicchu train station to guarantee order and security to the visitors before the evacuation arrangements.
As occurred in the last days, the remaining visitors who still in Machupicchu will continue having access to the train station to stay overnights on PeruRail carriages. PeruRail has sent over 2,000 kg of supplies to provide food and beverages to the ones staying in town.
By the way, PeruRail would like to communicate that in order to reduce the impact of this natural disaster on the Tourism Industry, it is evaluating different alternatives to re-establish the tourist flow to Machupicchu.
PeruRail congratulates the Minister Martin Perez, the Vice Minister Mara Seminario, the officers and pilots from the Peruvian Army and Peruvian Policemen for the successful operation performed in the area.

mountie, we will give you a first hand report on progress in the Urubamba Valley within the next couple of months. Right now, according to PeruRail, they expect to have their full service operational around the first to middle of July....so you can ride the train all the way to Aguas Calientes.
Are you going to Peru this year?- Ω -

bonniejoy03, the writer of this article did nothing to inspire me to hike the Inca trail. Would you really want to do anything like he discusses at your age? I don't even know your age. I just know I wouldn't want to do it at my age. The train ride sounds a lot more like my style.
