10-07-2010, 09:23 AMmountie, maybe the first question you need to answer is exactly what destination or destination in Peru hold interest for you. Although there is a wet season is some area of the country, other areas are not subject to the same weather patterns. Where would you like to visit?

10-11-2010, 07:53 AMYou make a good point, kapper. What difference does it make whether it is the rainy season or not in a specific area of Peru, or any other country for that matter, if I'm not planning on visiting that area.
Guess I better do my map study and pick out destinations before I try to select the best season to visit.
Too much tequila clouds my logic at times.

Mountie--Lima was cool and damp in early July. No rain per se, but somewhat overcast. We had one really pleasant/sunny day when the paragliders were taking off across the palisades. Excellent view from our suite at Miraflores Park Hotel. If you have another GC, that's a pretty good deal for 2 nights. Can't vouch for other regions.
I have another small hotel w/airport pick up, if you want to just fly in and out in a day. Also a driver we used. He was very sharp--drove a taxi in NY for years!"wherever you go, there you are"

01-23-2011, 08:33 AMkyshel, Rain or dry, I'm starting to plan. I will pack for both conditions.
Don't know about spending time in Lima. I haven't decided what airlines to use.
Was looking at Delta out of Atlanta, but the late arrival probably won't be such a good idea for connecting flights. I can leave from Miami and have better choices for overnight flights.
I will be using more GCs for sure on this trip.
Guess Machu Picchu is a must do, but I am expecting it to be crowded.
OK, send me a PM re the taxi driver, just in case.
Thanks.

I believe Mountie is limited to July, as he mentioned.

01-26-2011, 02:11 PMCorrecto.
The Mystery Auction package I bid on and secured may be used Jul 1 - Jul 31. Guess that's one reason it was such a good deal. I have my reservation request submitted with three July dates and we'll see what Orient-Express allows. Then I will construct the rest of my trip around those dates.
So, rain or no rain, July in Peru is what I will be doing.
