Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi Curt,
Yes it is interesting how the community has grown so far. I think the two of us are by far the more active ones. I wonder what happened to the "Trusted Contributor" status and the color coding. It seems these two items were just withdrawn as the LL Moderators/Administrators of this Community are still feeling their way through this new territory. Right now there are not too many new posts out there, but I wonder if we can keep up the volume as the Community grows. In the meantime, it is fun to share experiences and information, and getting to know some of the other contributors. I certainly have enjoyed your posts and have also found some other good ones. Well, keep up the good work!
PS: I have not come across the "Forum" either. Could it be a term they use loosely in their Help pages?

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi L
Yup, the "Forum" is still a big mystery, as are some of the other administrative processes )e.g. "Trusted Contributor' and the color coding) withing LL's Community. As far as keeping up, I actually believe it'll be a lot easier to do as the Community grows. Reason being that people like you and I will have a lot more other "regular Contributors" to interact with and share experiences and information. as it is now, I find that most of my contacts are with you (and I really appreciate all of your valued and far-ranging yravel expertise and experiences). Just imagine if there were twenty or more "Regular Contributors" that were actively posting theor varied travel findings on the Community. I think that'd be a very rich field or a deep well for all us to cultivate and dip into.

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi C,
Yes it is interesting to watch how the Community has grown. I am sure six months from now there will be a large group of regular contributors, but it is fun to be part of the initial group. I too have enjoyed your comments and interaction, so keep up the good work.

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi L
I agree and fully expect that by next summer the numcer of Community participants will have expanded exponentially as will the number of posts. The great thing is that the travel data, opinions and recommendations will also balloon for the benefit of all who take part. I must say, I admire you for your enthusiasm and diligence as well as for the depth and detail of the information you consistently provide. A real asset!

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi Curt,
I agree with you on the evolvement of the boards and also want to thank you for your compliment - This is exactly where I would have liked to send you a private note as provided for in the profile under "Send this user a Message". I tried this feature, but it did not work. After I typed out the message, there is not "send" button to click, so the message gets lost in space or at least must be abandoned to get back to the message threats. So much for that feature. I opened up a new threat on this and asked a LL Moderator to have a look or maybe enable it.
Any way, thanks for your kind remarks.

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi again Liane
It's enough to make a person shake his head in disbelief...image having a feature like "Send A Message" and no tool on the site for actually sending it. I realize there are 'bugs' to iron out, but this verges on silly. Let's hope our input to LL will help them fix things for all our benefit.

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi Curt,
Thanks for your message. This seems to be the same case as with the "message rating" provision which was overlooked to be enabled until one of the Moderators looked at our posts and realized the oversight and enabled the system. Now we are going through the same thing with the "Send a Message" feature. I opened up a new threat on this question, but haven't had any posts or answers on this one yet. It seems like the Moderators, or who ever works on the sites should read the posts more often. We are spending a lot of time and effort on things where really none of the contributors has the answer to and only the Moderators can correct the problem. I keep hoping we will know more about the use of the Community board and its functions by the end of the year.

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi Mary-j
Yes, it's quite amazing how one quickly gets past the usual formalities when communicating on a subject like travel, It's one which most contributors to LL's Community feel very passionate about. I see that this is the case with Liane Brown and you, as well as with several othersI've had the pleasure to be in contact with.
My first contact with you was a few days ago when I responded to your post whichwondered where people were from. You said youare in Scotland annd I replied with my location, Toronto, Canada. but, I haven't yet seen many other replies to your question. Guess many folk want to be less forthcoming.
I was in Scotland only once and that was very briefly when I was 12. Our flight from Helsinki to Montreal toucheddown at the airport near Glasgow to refuel or for some other reason. It was at night and all I remember is the heavy fog which swirled around our plane and all over the airport runways. Expect we'll rectify the situationin the near future with a visit to your part of the world, especially nowthat Ryan Air flies so frequently to Scottish cities from London and Dublin.

Re: Rating and how does it work
Hi again Mary-j
Fabulous to hear you've been to Lapland twice! I've never been that far north in Finland myself, Nost of my cousins live in or near Helsinki, so I've focused my fairly frequent travels over the past dozen years to southern Finland and visits with the relatives. Next trip though, my wife and I will also head north (likely by car) and will likely cross the border into Sweden and a tour of that country, as we have good friends north of Stockholm.
Ialso have an abiding interest in the Vikings. As such, I've thrilled at finding rune stones along countryside roadways north of the capital. Have avidly read historic accounts of the Vikings' raids on England, Ireland and some of the Scottish isles, as well as other far-flung parts of Europe (Russia, France, Italy, and evem Constatinople!). Have an English friend who lives near York. She tells me about the current archaeological excavations for Viking artefacts/remains taking place in the harbour area of that city. Fascinating stuff!
