I would like to plan a trip to Argentia/Patagonia region. If anyone can help me and give me some tips, I would appreciate it. What are the best travel/tour guide agencies to us, when is the best time to go, places NOT TO MISS, and places to stay. Can you help?

vbarr03, you might want to check with omegaet, one of the VIP Contributors about Patagonia. He has mentioned that area of South American in several threads and most recently, he posted that as one of his travel destinations for 2008. Welcome to the community and good luck!

vbarr03, we are departing for Chile and Argentina (more time will be spent in Chile and only a few nights in Argentina)in two weeks. We have done quite a bit of research and would be happy to share information if you like. You can contact us by PM or post your questions here in the thread.

Patagonia is mainly famous for its natural beauty and vast dimensions, and many go there to do trekking. Best time is probably summer (Dec-Mar),
but contrary to common belief Patagonia has a moderate climate, so you can go there year round - wind and rain are more problematic than temperatures, although it can get very cold temporarily.
Places not to miss are the Lake District (Bariloche and surroundings), Perito Moreno glacier (El Calafate - Chalten), Fitz Roy and Torres del Paine in Chile,
and the atlantic coast with its wildlife, e.g. at Peninsula Valdez.
Airtravel is often best because of the large distances, but at least once I would take a luxury night bus - they are extremely comfortable and
typical for South America.

Has anyone noticed that LL has started adding some very, very interesting destinations in both Chile and Argentina? This is a good thing.

Isn't it wonderful! I am even noticing a lovely property in Ecudaor. I did email them and they were very responsive. Keep the Central and South American properties coming!!

mountie...Winos?
Come on, the Mendoza region produces some very high quality wines....the two destinations in the area look interesting and get some pretty favorable reviews on TA. Llao Llao is a fantastic property (a little large, maybe) in one of the most scenic area of the country....and the Sofitel in BA is in a great location.
Maybe you should consider putting together a visit to Argentina through LL auctions!

Maybe those two places in and around Mendoza offer more than just visiting vineyards and drinking wine. They appear to be close to the Andes.

Certainly appears that LL is beefing up the choices in South America. Anyone snagging good deals?
