Re: South America
I grabbed the Lima Peru Miraflores Park (OE) and am set for June. Really interested in the new offer (also OE) at Rio Sagrado but that's another time.

Hi K...I agree with you about Rio. It looks lovely and could serve as a base prior to going to Machu Pichu. Have fun at the Miraflores.

You can bet the Rio Sagrado is a great property, since it is operated by Orient Express.

Re: South America
When I booked the Miraflores, I poked around in the OE website for and found the Rio Sagrado (and others) that piqued my interest!! It was just a few days later when the RS offering came up on LL. How weird is that? Maybe there are more OE properties coming our way?

WOW, maybe I better jump on a couple of these Orient-Express deals before they go away.

Re: South America
Many of us on LL were dreaming of OE offering the Machu Pichu packages again. Finally...the trips were offered and I had made my travel plans for the year. I was so disappointed! (The OE trips mostly end in October.) Glad the new Rio package in Peru is extended until 2011. Will have to work quicker on my trips for the beginning of 2011 and maybe OE can extend their other packages into the new year?!!

Considering the horrendous rains and mudslides and floods, select your dates very carefully for Peru if planning to travel early in the year. So many hotels, train routes etc have just recently re-opened.

Who in the community has actually spent time traveling in Peru? What time of the year were you there and what did you experience. I know about the recent heavy rains, flooding and mud slides, but is this time period typical for rains?
Anyone out there with first hand experience?

Best time to go to Peru is May - September
Rainy season is the worst time to go south of the Equator in South America - I was in Peru one year in April and did not even make it to Machu Pichu due to rain and mudslides

Denise, looks like the rains have arrived in Guatemala and are causing a lot of damage and loss of life. Any news from the places you have stayed down there?
