Specific Health Advice - Swine Flu Precautions
Hello,
Since we are returning to the States in Mid-September, I would be interested in learning what the current situation about swine flu is. Any specific precautions around airports to be taken, in-flight precautions, etc.? Are people wearing masks while traveling?

LL_Travelfan, we're alive and doing well over here. No spotting of masked air travelers at JFK or MCO recently. Probably more danger involved in your bike riding on the beaches of West Florida than catching H1N1. Hurry back and start enjoying the strength of your dollars.

Thanks travel2fun,
I am glad to hear that H1N1 is not causing any big scares over there. I read about H1N1 gearing up as school season is beginning to start, so I got worried. Funny you remembered me breaking my wrist last year while riding my bike on the sunny beaches of West Florida. We still do a lot of biking (and hiking) over in the German mountains and the scenary is breathtaking. You are right, the dollar is not very strong over here.

LL_Travelfan, the drug stores are offering flu shots this weekend in central Florida and the newpapers indicate there will be H1N1 shots available in October. Don't get caught up in all of the media hype.

Re: Specific Health Advice - Swine Flu Precautions
Even when we traveled to Riviera Maya in early May (during the "pandemic") we saw NO ONE wearing masks. (Probably because they are not effective in filtering the virus) The only places I have traveled to in the past 5 years where people commonly wear them is in parts of Asia. I think it because it stinks in some big cities and the pollution is so bad you see it. We always referred to how the color brown would smell--Bangkok was a prime example.
Got my flu shot yesterday (on doctor bro's insistence!!) and my arm still hurts. (I HATE those!)"wherever you go, there you are"

Hi,
Thanks for your info and advise. I guess the masks are of little help but frequent washing of the hands and keeping hands away from face and mucus areas should help.

Ialways pack individual sanitizer wipe packets in my pocket. I use them to wipe down the tray table and arm rests of our airplane seats as soon as we sit down. I see more and more people doing this.
