Thinking About Jumping In That Pool?
Could be another reason to think twice about sjumping in public & hotel/resort swimming pools:

UGH
ICK
EWWWWWWWW
Just another reason for me NOT to go to Vegas...9 hours was enough (and no pool time)
I can smell chemicals in my tap water, so I can tell a lot by just sniffing around..."wherever you go, there you are"

I have to admit that the pools that I frequest are usually LL properties which do not have a tendency towards wild pool parties - usually not that crowded and certainly nothing like Vegas - which is a destination we have never been to and propably will never go to ;-)

07-25-2011, 02:33 AMWell, I guess I will probably be one of the few, if not the only one who answers this question honestly. Of course I have contributed to increases in the water levels of public pools in the past. Mostly as a much younger person. Not so much at this point in my life. I know my kids have been contributors for certain. My husband, likely has not and never will.
As for the Vegas party type pools, we would never be attracted to that environment.

07-29-2011, 12:35 AMThose of us of a certain age, grew up not being allowed to go into dirty pools, ponds, lakes because something worse than 'yuck' dwelled there: polio. An example of which I had right before my 2 to 10 yo eyes, in the first child of my god parents (Thankfully he is still alive)
I think it's rare for a child not to pee when swimming, at least once! But if the system is strong enough to handle an occasional indiscretion or the body of water has springs, flow and is large enough, probably no harm is done. I did see where the Aria in Vegas had a recent problem with Legionnaire's Disease, which is also connected with dirty water. With adults, there is no excuse.
Also having no excuse are the parents we saw the first night in Honolulu at a hotel, chest deep in water, bouncing their diaper clad kid up and down in a hot tub. GROSS.
So yes, we stay away from pools, ponds that are likely to be hosts to thoughtless people and other things we can't see. Even for our cocker spaniel Clem and the late corgi, as dogs can get very sick as well from such places.

I have been to many a beach resort where I saw parents changing their kids diapers right at the water line and then throw the diaper into the ocean - so it is not only pools, although at least in the ocean it "floats" away and joins the big trash heap in the middle of the ocean

07-29-2011, 11:51 AMWhat's also gross is when a parent changes a diaper on the airplane travel tray. YUCK. I've seen that.

07-30-2011, 01:42 AMI think if I had seen someone doing the diaper into the ocean, if I was able, I would have gone into the water and retrieved said item and brought it back to the 'adult' saying either nothing as I dumped it or 'you let this get away from you, it belongs in the trash'.
A friend who has a cottage on a lake was heard to say to a guest: "Oh no you don't! Not in OUR lake. Not in THIS lake. It's YOUR lake too, you know." I didn't see what this person was starting to do, but I thought it was a great way to get a message across.
As for the airplane tray, we now carry Clorox wipes with us. So far this hasn't happened but if I was sitting in the same row as someone who started to change the babe, I would speak up, first nicely asking if I could get up from my seat or whatever to facilitate the parent getting to the bathroom, where they now have changing tables. If that didn't work, I might inform the person that the crew would be called to switch our seats.
sigh......
