True or False
So, having just booked a couple of nights here:

Just in time for Halloween, we read the following (btw Jim Sanchez has requested a suite on the 14th floor for our use):
The Homestead, Hot Springs, VA
The Homestead was built in 1766, and is one of the oldest resorts in America. With all this history, perhaps it’s no surprise the hotel is the scene of many mysterious happenings, the most notable of on the 14th floor located in the resort’s oldest wing. It’s so spooky, in fact, that housekeepers refuse to work on the floor. One who did work on that floor, however, was sweeping the corridor when a lady dressed in 18th century clothing approached him from down the hall to ask for the time. He answered and she thanked him continuing on her way.
He later mentioned the encounter to his supervisor, who seemed alarmed and explained that other staff members had reported similar incidents. Legend has it that in the early 1900s, a woman was set to be married at The Homestead. On the day of her wedding, her husband-to-be, nervous and having second thoughts, told her to stay in their room while ran out for a moment. Her groom left the hotel never to return again. The story goes that the bride became so distraught she took her own life. Now, her spirit roams the 14th floor of the resort asking guests and staff for the time, still waiting for her groom to arrive.Last edited by omegaet; 10-11-2010 at 11:05 AM. Reason: update

10-11-2010, 03:20 PMWhy or why would you book a hotel that has a ghost? Also, even if you don't believe there is a ghost there, why do you want to stay on a floor where the housekeepers refuse to work? Did Jim get you a substantially reduced rate, since you will have to do your own cleaning. That is, if the ghost doesn't scare you away. Where did you find this information?

Just returned from Baltimore at Pier 5 and went to the sister property; Admiral Fells Inn. Lovely ghost tour in the property. Lots of ghosts there!! Kind of interesting and great time of year to be scared!!!

I will only believe when I see/feel one. Lots of old buildings are drafty accounting for that "cold ghostly air" and all those weird noises you hear are due to the old creaky floorboards

mountie...we just returned from The Homestead.....we did stay on the 14th floor and we did walk the halls of the 15th floor as well. We spoke to several of the "long time" employees (two of which refused to go to either of the floors) and they offered us "tips" on the best times to make an encounter.
We shot several photos on both floors and look forward to downloading them and inspecting the results on a larger computer monitor....could take several days and we'll see what happens!
As for ghosts.....well, you should consider a visit and make your own decision!
btw...The Homestead resort and the surrounding mountains remain a true treasure in that pat of the country. The LL package was worth the money and the "attention" given us as Luxury Link travelers was exceptional....even better than their normal high level of service.
p.s......we did find time to take the sunset hayride and prepare some smores over an open fire....great seasonal entertainment and fun watching the kids try to accomplish this messy and sticky task!- Ω -

Oh--I did the original Halloween festival about 15+ yrs ago--what a HOOT!! We came up with last minute costumes (hey, we didn't pack for THAT while sailing the Keys for 10 days) but leopard print bikini always comes in handy in a pinch...and eyeliner
