Re: TRUSTED CONTRIBUTOR STATUS
Hi
True, there are no guidelines for the rating system, but a rating of 1 to 5 is not that hard to manage. The rating system does count towards the quarterly VIP selection, and therefore, we should rate all posts. Obviously, where someone puts a lot of work in to put up a good post, it should rate a 4 or 5, a mere thank you probably does not warrant more than a 1 or 2, but thank yous and short form of replies are a form of courtesy and should probably not be dispensed with. I don't think these merit "private messages". So do rate the posts you are replying to.

Hello,
Maybe we shouldn't rate the 'thank yous' at all -- giving them a 1 or 2 seems a bit miserly and might unfairly penalise people who are just trying to be polite, but they're not really worth a 4 or 5.
LL Moderators, some guidance would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Julian

I tend to agree, Julian. I only rate posts that are substantive. Also, if two people end up in a back-and-forth conversation on the board that is interesting to them but doesn't have much substantive information for anyone else, I am concerned that the "rating" system can be manipulated unfairly too - on the one hand, don't want to penalize people for being polite and friendly; at the same time, if the two people in the conversation gave each other 4s or 5s (with no one else rating), that seems a little like grade inflation too.jashermd wrote:

Part of what I enjoy most about the Community is our desire to understand...one another and the LL system. We all seem to be rather competitive and wanting to "win" in terms of status or a free trip or whatever. I join the crowd as I also step back and notice how interesting we all are. To all in our Community group: Bon Chance!
Cheers...Marolyn

kboojd, I hope you don't mindthe wayI rate the information people put up here. If I happen to see a conversation going on in one of these threads, and I like what the people are saying, I might just give them high ratings. By the way, does that jd after kboo in your name mean you are a lawyer? Thank you!kboojd wrote:
