upgrade possible?

Does anyone know how to upgrade the room when buying throught the auction on the Casa Velas Boutique Hotel? Also would love to hear of someone's experience using this process.

Hi mrj456, I don't understand your question. I wasn't aware you could upgrade any LL packages. Usually the accommodations are very good. Could you be more specific with what you had in mind?

on the subject of upgrades.....has anyone ever been complimentary upgraded once they arrived at their hotel booked through luxury Link? I always read or hear about people being upgraded to a better category of room but it has never happened to me. Is there something I should or should not be doing when I check-in? Do people just go and ask straight out for an upgrade? I am quite shy as far as things like that is concerned but I suppose it is true what they say..."You don't get if you don't ask". Any tips from those out there who have had lots of upgrades would be very welcome!!! Cheers.

Hi mary-j, We have only been upgraded once that I know of, and that after we had been put into a lesser room than specified by LL. The hotel was full and we had two 3-night packages back to back that included a weekend. After the weekend guests had left the hotel upgraded us to a suite with a stunning view of the mountains. In all other cases, the accommodations were top notch. Let me know if you find out more about it.

Actually LhBrown, you've just answered a query I had. Some of the auctionsI am interested in were only for 3 or 4 nights but I would not travel all that distance from the UK for such a short time, so I was going to ask if it is possible to add on extra nights direct with the hotel. I never thought about actually buying packages back to back. At least that would solve my problem of wanting to stay longer. Thanks.

Hi mary-j, Yes we have booked two packages back-to-back, but before you auction the 2 packages, do check with the hotel. Some of the hotels will specify Sunday through Thursday only, so this would mean you can only use 5 nights unless he hotel will agree to let you use the 2 three-night packages back-to-back. So do check with the hotel prior to the auction, but it is possible if nothing is specified. Traveling a very long distance to get to your destination, say the Caribbean, 3 or 4 night packages are too short unless you visit several properties in that particular area. Good luck!

We took back to back packages to Fiji a couple of years ago....no problem and we spent 10 wonderful days on Toberua (our 3rd time there.) We're going again in February (not through luxurylink...alas) and are keeping our fingers crossed that the coup is settled and the international airport is open freely.

On the topic of upgrades, If you read on some of the LL offers, you will be upgraded based on availability. It is my experience however, that when you get to the resort it takes some finesse and luck to get upgrades when checking in. What I sometimes do is ask the check in person if I got a nice room and then sometimes they do you a favor. Also they have made me offers at check in to get a larger room for $100 extra per night etc. So it is hit or miss when you get to your destination.

We have asked for and paid extra for upgrade to the best suite in the house at Prague's Hotel Hoffmeister LL pkg. Wehad lots of time to correspond and chose off-peak travel since we fly on airline employee standby. It was worth the time and effort to contact hotel mgrand secure upgrade in advance. It was worth every penny to get accomodations that would have cost over $400/day in other circumstances plus all the perks included in our LL pkg. The hotel was happy to get the extra$ and we got a suite on multiple floors, and all the amenities afforded the creme de la creme guests. Hotel staff was well tipped so they were quite happy for walking the steps up and down our suite! It was our chance to live like the royals!

7....this is standard operating procedure for us, when we arrive at a property (LL auction or otherwise). We see nothing wrong with inquiring if the accommodations being offered are the best available. More often than not, we receive an upgrade. Sometimes, weare offered an upgraded accomodation, if we are willing topay additional money....in those cases, we ask if the amount being requested is worth the extra ammenities being offered. We find it's a "give and take" situation at check-in in most properties.....some times you win, some times you don't. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
