Well, it's Opening Day at Fenway and I am sick as a dog. Good thing I didn't have tickets, because I'll be watching this one on NESN.

Re: where is everyone from?
Hi jenna
Take heart. The season's just started and there's well over 150 games left to go. Your Red Sox are bound to turn things around in no time and perhaps even replace our Blue Jays atop the leader board of the AL East (though I fervently hope otherwise). After all, the Red Sox won the World Series just recently, while the Jays did it back in 1992 and '93 (so we've had a 14-year drought). The two teams meet here in Toronto for a three-game stint in about a week. I'll try to get to the SkyDome to catch the excitement but if not, I'll be following the action on TSN.

Re: where is everyone from?
Hi C and/or Fred/Jenna,
I am not really a baseball fan, although I have seen the Red Sox play once or twice while in Boston. An interesting tid-bit, the owner of the Red Sox team is a neighbor of ours, down the street on Assembly Point at Lake George. I have never met him, his Lake George house is a most beautiful place, but from what I understand, it is just one of many of his numerous houses.

Hi, everyone!
I was looking for Scotland info and started following this thread--don't quite know how it turned into a Boston/Red Sox discussion!
Tho I am going to Boston in July (I lived in Lexington for several years--LONG ago, so know a little about area), and I'd love anyone's recommendation for a place to stay in Cape Cod for several days.
Is Mary J still around?
I could use a little help on Scotland.
I stayed on Skye for 2 months last year and want to go back for about 6 months.
Last time, I flew Virgin from D.C. to London, BA to Glasgow, train to Mallaig, ferry across to Skye, bus to Portree, and was exhausted by that time!
There MUST be an easier way to get there!!
I spent a few days each
in Inverness, Glasgow, and London (saw plays with
Judi Dench AND Jeremy Irons--Wow!), but
SKYE
is the main attraction--it is definitely my spiritual home.
Great Grandmother was a MacLeod, and I guess her genes passed on a love for the place.
We're reasonably certain HER grandfather came from Skye (to N.C., tho they later migrated to Georgia, where I grew up)
I live in the NORTH CAROLINA
"Triad" area (middle of the state), a little closer to the mountains than the beach, but might be able to provide a little info if anyone's going to either location.
BOTH are GREAT places to visit, by the way!
As you can guess from my name, I'm an actress--small time, local theatre (but we're lucky to
have 5 professional companies here, so there's a fair amount of work).
Naturally I love to go to the theatre--will take my annual trip to the Shaw Festival (Niagara on the Lake, Ontario) in August.
And for you Canadians--I 've visited Montreal and Toronto several times, but my favorite was a Via Rail from Toronto to Jasper, car to Banff, and then the Rocky Mountain Rail to Vancouver.
NEXT time, I'll start in Quebec so trip will be even longer.
I loved it!
Enuf about me. . .any help on getting to Skye???
Also, I'd like to rent a car for a part of the time, but the rental place on Skye wouldn't rent to any U S or Canadian citizens!!!! Said our driving tests were not rigorous enuf for their insurance ??
If it's a case of driving a shift, I'm so old that I LEARNED how to drive with a shift, also had a VW bug for years.
Should I try renting a car from US, maybe in Glasgow or Inverness??
Thanks.
I love reading all your messages.

Re: where is everyone from?
Hi,
nice to hear about you and glad to hear you love Scotland. I stay near Edinburgh but not all that familiar myself with Skye, but, you could fly from DC to London and get a connecting flight up toInverness where you could either get the train or coach on to Skye. If I get more info on getting to Skye and the easiest way to do it I will let you know. Anyway, hope that helps.
Cheers,

Hi limelitelady (from North Carolina)
Welcome to the LL Community. As you've already found out, there are a lot of wonderful folks who contribute information and ideas on travel to many different parts of the world. Sometimes our posts go off on some weird tangents but it's all for fun and the joy of sharing travel experiences as well as related insights from baseball to baggage packing to snagging local souvenirs in out-of-the-way places.
So glad to hear you enjoy travelling through Canada and plan to do some more of it in our great country. Very strange about US and Canadian drivers not being able to rent a car on the Island of Skye!!?? I googled Skye and got a lot of information on this amazing and beautiful Scottish Island. One of the best sites for information iswww.skye.co.uk Try it out and good luck!
Ever since Paul McCartney sang Mull of Kintyre, I've had a hankering to visit there and to explore Skye as well.

I live within easy driving distance of Cape Cod and my absolute FAVORITE place on the Cape is Chatham Bars Inn. LL does have packages available from time to time. It's beautiful, the service is terrific and it really captures the style and feeling of the Cape. There's nothing I'd like better than to get away to Chatham Bars for a few days.

I'm a New York City girl - originally from St. Louis. I'm now happily living in Brooklyn and love it! I am very opinionated and have loads of suggestions for visits to Manhattan if anyone ever needs it!

Re: where is everyone from?
welcome--I'm sure we'll all enjoy the NY tips. My nephew moved there nearly 5 yrs ago (he's in landscape/grounds at Central Park--say hi when you see him, ok? haha) I was in fashion for 20 yrs, working in the city regulary (10-12X yr) and what I recommend is so different than what he likes and so on--what a diverse city--and hard to keep up with! I'll be watching for new restaurants/places, etc. I still get to NY now and then--usually just passing thru and overnighting to connect to Europe. When I get back into the city, the referrals will be welcomed!
