Who sets up 'Boards' on Community?
Hi LL Moderator
I take it someone at LL decides on what 'Boards' to include under the key travel categories, but I wonder if we contributors can influence these decisions somehow or have input in their choice. For example, there's a "Western USA & Hawaii" board but none for Eastern or Central or Southern USA. Why not? Similarly, I wonder why no specific board somewhere on the LL Community for Asia or Australia or the Pacific Islands (other than Hawaii?
Another point: as the information on your site expands over time as a result of more contributors joining, it'd make surfing for the specific place you're looking for a lot easier if the boards were subdivided into smaller geographic areas and each of these subdivided agin into more specific areas. For example, for Europe it'd be really helpful if there were subcategories like a) British Isles; b) Scandinavia; c) Central Europe; d) the Mediterranean Region; e) the Baltics; f) Eastern Europe. Again, each of these could have drop-down sub-categories so a person could zero in easily and quickly to exactly what they're looking for. So, for Scandinavia, you'd have a choice of a) Denmark; b) Finland; c) Iceland; d) Norway; e) Sweden.

Re: Who sets up 'Boards' on Community?
Hi curtiejoe,
Good post to the LL Moderator. I think in time we will see the same categories as on the auctions or buy now offers. Remember, the Community is only two months old and still a work in progress. Eventually, there will be more boards, and fewer posts on "how to use" LL Community posts. Right now, we are all still in a learning process, LL Community Moderators/Editors included.

Hi Liane
Yeah, it's true that LL Community's in its infancy, but now's the time, I feel, to think about tweaks that can improve things. A better board system organization is one I think merits consideration and I hope it happens soon (just like the idea of being able to upload photos).

Re: Who sets up 'Boards' on Community?
Hi Curt,
I agree with you that now is the time for the editors to set up a better board system, even perhaps to let us upload pictures, but I also think we will see changes after the first of the year.
I don't know if you saw my post on the "how to become an editor" threat by enewseven. The TripAdvisor.come has a nice set-up where you can find all the reviews and ratings for a given property in one spot and it allows you to upload pictures as well. If LL could follow a similar set-up coupled with the various current offers, I think LL would be ahead of the game, and it would be a more useful board. It would show the user of what property is on auction, for example, and the user could click on it and also find the various reviews for that property. Just a thought. LL Monitor please take note.

Re: Who sets up 'Boards' on Community?
Yes, I agree it would be better to have more specific areas and i think we would get more posts and more people contributing to the forum. I personally would like to see the Middle East/Dubai and the Indian Ocean.I know at the moment these areas could be covered under "Worldwide" butI think breaking them down into smaller categories would be better. As you say, this has been running for only a short time and I think it is going really well. Obviously there is still room for improvement but all in all it is very good. Keep up the good work everyone!

Re: Who sets up 'Boards' on Community?
Hi mary-j,
There is certainly room for improvement and better streamlining the various boards. We could use more Moderator/LL Administrator input, but I think we will see this after the 1st of the year. In the meantime we are just beating a dead horse... We should be patient, it is only 12 days to the end of the month. Mary-j, don't forget to rate the posts you are replying to. I hate to be a stickler about this, but this should be part of the good work you are doing....

Hi Liane
I did see your post and also agree with you that the way TripAdvisor has things set up is really very useful. My hope, like you, is for LL to revise its system to be more like TripAdvisor soon.

Re: Who sets up 'Boards' on Community?
Curtiejoe, I live in a small town about ten miles from Edinburgh. Have you ever been to Scotland? My husband always leaves me to choose our holiday destination. He never has any input on where we go, even thoughI ask him over and over again to help me select somewhere. He trusts my judgement 100%. He tells everyone he is just the "suitcase carrier", but has never yet been disappointed with my choice. The one place he has always wanted to go to is Toronto. I will probably just go and book one day and surprise him, especially asI know that you would be there toanswer any questionsI have!!
