Whose Been Here?
Anyone been to the Gamboa property? I just noticed it a day or two ago. It is an easy flight for me to get to Panama City and looks like a short ride to this property. I thought people just passed through the canal, I didn't really consider staying in the country.

Re: Whose Been Here?
We stayed not far from there--other side of the bridge and I took a hard look at the property. We really like the canal (just the Miraflores locks) and I wanted to go back. We both enjoy the engineering aspects.
After some comments very PRO and very CON on TA, I passed. It has so much location appeal, but the food issues were a deal breaker for me--quality and price. But, Ariau Towers didn't exactly have fab food, but it was inclusive, since it was totally remote!
I'm glad you asked--I'm curious to hear from our members, too.
PS--PTY airport is about 30-40 mins to El Centro THEN the additional time to Gamboa.Message Edited by kyshel on 07-22-2010 05:27 PM

Re: Whose Been Here?
Hi M. My father always wanted to visit the canal so we set up a personal tour for him as opposed to a cruise (the day transit through the canal.) Part of the trip was a few days at Gamboa. He LOVED IT!!! HE loved the grounds, food, activity. He was there in 2006 and at the time was 84. He thought it was nice as a destination vacation.
Also, do look at staying in the country. We had stayed there a few years ago and I would recommend a visit. The city itself is huge and just like any large city. From the city, you can visit the Miraflores locks and watch the boats go through...very nice! There are great beach properties close to the city and other areas. Years ago,we stayed with the Kuna Indians on the San Blas Islands....what fun!!

Re: Whose Been Here?
I went to the Gamboa property for 1 day as part of a Panama Canal cruise - it is very nice and I would love to stay there for a few days. While boating through the lakes, this was the only place besides the Amazon that I got to see a sloth up close and personal!

Re: Whose Been Here?
I'm not overwhelmed yet with the initial responses re: Gamboa. Anyone else been here and can add first hand information?
