Why does the same exact auction appear twice, with 2 different prices?
I have had my eye on the auctions for Soneva Gili (featured under the Asia auctions). For the last few weeks, the exact same package has been appearing twice, with different prices. I understand the difference between an auction and buy-it-now (higher priced), but this is for the same auction (same inclusions, # of days).
Any insight?

Re: Why does the same exact auction appear twice, with 2 different prices?
Hi Cruisinred,
I've been watching JK Place and thought I saw the same thing, until I read the fine print -- one of the packages (the auction) had a lot of blackout dates, whereas the other (the Buy Now) was usable at any time of year. Maybe this is the case with Soneva Gili? Looks like a wonderful place BTW!
Cheers,
Julian

Re: Why does the same exact auction appear twice, with 2 different prices?
Hi cruisinred.
This is interesting! It does appear to be the same auction, but with different closing dates. So, instead of having the same auction appear multiple times, each one after the other has closed, there are two going on concurrently with a bit of overlap. I've seen this on other web sites, but not on LL before. If you're going to bid, I would just bid on the lower priced one!

cruisinred....."it's all about the fine print and dates".....as have been pointed out by both jashermd & disneygal. This is just another example of doing your "due diligence" before placing the winning bid. We don't believeLL is trying to confuse us as much as create additional options.....sometimes certain blackout dates work, etc.,better than others.
We have noticed apparent duplications at different prices before (but upon further checking, there were always differences of some nature in the offered packages).

Re: Why does the same exact auction appear twice, with 2 different prices?
Thanks for the replies on this issue.
I have carefully looked at both auctions again, and they are for the same room type, samedates/time period (July-Dec 2007) and neither includes any stated blackout dates. I also carefully read the inclusions/extras and both auctions include exactly the same things. The suggested retail price is also the same for both.
So the issue of the 2 different prices remains a mystery to me.

Re: Why does the same exact auction appear twice, with 2 different prices?
Hi Cruisinred
It does happen often that an auction is just about to expire, and another begins. It is the exact same package, just ending on another day. Was the date for ending the auction the same. If those dates were the same, I really think it was a mistake on the part of LL.

Re: Why does the same exact auction appear twice, with 2 different prices?
Hi cruisinred,
This is my take on it, and sorry the previous explanation still left you mystified. We've often seen one auction end, and then the exact same auction will be available shortly after. Let's say a property is up for auction and the starting price is $500. The auction closes a few days later and it goes for $700. Then the next week, the exact same auction is available, with a starting price of $500 again.
Now, let's say there is an overlap in the dates the two auctions take place. The first auction opens on Monday, and byThursday the price is up to $600. Then, instead of waiting until that auction ends, a new auction, for exactly the same package, begins on Thurday with the starting price of $500. You have the exact same package, but two separate auctions overlapping with different prices.
I took a lookat the packagein question and believe this was the situation. I'm not sure thattheoverlap was intentional. On SkyAuction, they often have the exact same package going at the same time for different prices, but the auctions close at different times. But LL usually runs the same package in sequential auctions.
Hope that ramble helped a bit!
