Wipe Out/Failure To Launch

Hi LL Moderator (s):



Please help. Several times in the past few weeks I've put together new posts to go on the LL Comminity boards and too many times, for whatever reason, I've gotten an error message.



It's really getting very frustrating. After often spending up to 30 minutes writing down detailed information on travel destinations/properties or composing a lengthy reply to another LL Community contributor on some fascinating travel-related topic/issue/idea, tohave all that work and time spentwiped out is totally maddening. The reasons given in your error messages are not really helpful, as the text of what I've worked on has disappeared and can't seemingly be retrieved.



Other sites I visit have a wondeful feature called"Save Draft"!!! It let's you pause while you're drafting a reply (say if the phone rings or you have to go out fore a while) and come back to finish it later. Such a great tool would be a godsend to the LL Community, not only for me but for other contributors (like mary-j who texted that she'd spent over 40 minutes putting together a reply about the travel wonders of Edinburgh only to have it all wiped out by some url-protocol error she'd made).

Yes, I second that. When it happened to me the first time I was a little annoyed but when it happened again after spending about 40 minutes on the post, it really made me see red!!! Hope fully the moderators can come up with a solution.

Hi C,
This happened to me too a number of times. Somehow, the LL system logs you out within a very short period of inactivity while you are writing a review. It is maddening when all the effort is wasted and you lose the post and have to start all over again. I have gotten around it by blocking and copying the text, then having to login again, but at least I hadn't lost my text, I could just paste it in once I got back to the post I was replying to. This is very time consuming and annoying, to say the least. I agree with you the LL person who works on the site should possibly built in a "Save Draft" feature. This would make quite an improvement and prevent contributors from becoming frustrated. LL Moderator please take not.

It's good to hear from another VIP Contributor on this issue. Sad to know that more than just a few LL Community participants are having the same annoying problem with wipe-out.



Your way around the pesky situation is to block and copy what you've written before you hit the "Submit Post" button. Smart of you, but as you note, quite time-consuming and very round-about.



The more folks who write in about this, the more likely we may be to get a speedy solution, like the "Save Draft" feature that other similar websites already have.

VIPjoe...just do your writing and editing in a Word document....take as long as you need....then cut and paste into the LL thread reply.

mary-j...sometimes if it takes too long to compose a reply message, the system will "time-out" and simply wipe out a response. It can be frustrating, especially, if you have taken a long to compose the message. This is what started the complaint in this thread. You seem to be doing just fine with your level of computer expertise....you are in the game and that's what counts. Keep up the good work.

Hi mary-j, of course we all have different levels of computer skill. And you're doing great - look at all those posts! The earlier suggestion was that if you have a lengthy repsonse, you can write it up somewhere else first. That way you don't risk losing it if LL times out and your response goes...wherever lost posts go. If you use word processing software, that would be a place to write your response,making sure to save it there.Then copy it into your LL reply. I hope that helps!

Appreciate your suggestion to use Word. It'll serve well as a temporary fix by helping contruibutors get all their new posts onto the LL Community boards. Still think we need a more permanent and easier solution that doesn't involve having to use external tools. I'm looking to LL Moderators to come up with a permanent fix.
