Re: Wipe Out/Failure To Launch
hi VIPmary-j
This all stems from the frustration some of us are experiencing when we've spent a lot of time and effort composing a post/reply to a post on LL Community. Seems that LL only allocates a certain amount of time for this and if you take longer, then your effort's wiped out!!!
I recall you having just this experience when you spent over 40 minutes writing up a reply to my question about travel attractions in and around Edinburgh a few weeks ago. Now, some of our colleague VIP Contributors have come up with some temporary solutions for by-passing this problem. What I'd really like to see is a permanent fix from LL Community Moderators.

Re: Wipe Out/Failure To Launch
Hi Curt,
I feel your pain when composing a message and then loosing it due to a time out ! What I do is after I'm done with a thought (especially) if it is a long one, I just highlight everything I typed and right click and copy, so at least I have most of the text save short term without having to create a word document (which is a great idea !) but sometimes when one is multi-tasking that may take a few extra steps. So basically I'm copying my text and if I get timed out I can just log back in create the reply and copy back what I had previously highlighted.

Re: Wipe Out/Failure To Launch
Hi enew7
What a simple yet effective way of dealing with this nagging situation. Good of you to pass it on to me and other LL contributors. I think it'll be a good tool for me to use for the time being until the Moderators can come up with a permanent solution (i.e. like a "Save Draft" feature).
Thanx

Re: Wipe Out/Failure To Launch
It has just happened to me again and unfortunately I really don't understand what everyone was talking about when they were talking about "pasting" etc. so I lost yet another long post. What is the reason they put a time limit on it

Re: Wipe Out/Failure To Launch
hi mary-j
For the life of me, I too can't understand why LL has imposed such a limited time for contributors to post their messages. I must have had a half-dozen good, long posts wiped out in the past week alone. And, it's literally driving me crazy! Unfortunately, it's forcing me to deliberately cut down on the depth of detail in my posts, as I figure,"why bother if it's just gonna go nowhere!".

Have also tried "pasting" and some of the other tricks suggested by fellow LL Community contributors, but seems no matter what I do, things invariably go awry. So, though I'd love to rant and rave some more, to prevent a wipe-out yet again, I'm stopping this post here amd now.

Re: Wipe Out/Failure To Launch
Hi friends, not that this will ease the pain, but the timeout issue is a common problem. When you're on a website where you are logged in, a session is open for you, so you're no longer anonymous. For example, on your bank's website, you may be able to check interest rates without logging on, but they need to know who you are in order to display your account information. For your own protection, you want an automatic logout after a period of inactivity. Same here on LL where the primary purpose of logging on was to bid on travel and make purchases. The logout is partially for our good. Now, we're all logging on to post to the community, when previously most of us were probably browsing the site without logging on most of the time. So they have more "open sessions". Leaving us logged on longerwould mean evenmore concurrent open sessions. That could bring down the system if they're not prepared to handle it.It's tough to lose a post, but we would be more upset if the system crashed! It seems that LL Moderators are reading these posts and taking the feedback into consideration. Along with you, I hope they provide a solution. In the meantime, there have been some great ideas provided for us to ensure our posts our not lost. Copy copy copy, paste!

Re: Wipe Out/Failure To Launch
hi disneygalPerhaps some other protocol is available somwhere in the "computer/Internet galaxy" that would enable LLCommunity contributors to be in an "open session" without necessarily tying up a lot of resources that could result in a system crash? In my mind, the simplest solutions still would be for us to have a "Save Draft" option so that we could park part or all of a lengthy post we're working on or have just completed (but not yet submitted. This way, it'd save time on the system, eliminate our frustration at losing a good post into thin air and having to start up all over again. It works great on normal E-mail, so why nor on LL Community?curtiejoe
