Anyone out there going to the Caribbean in 2012??
There has not been much activity on the Caribbean board.....anyone going? I am heading back to Virgin Gorda and Anguilla. I see many LL packages that are quite tempting......

01-19-2012, 02:30 PMI'm headed to Virgin Gorda - staying at Biras Creek on a LL package. I have not stayed there before but have visited many times while I was bare-boating in the BVI. Really looking forward to it!!!
What have you done on Virgin Gorda? I'm thinking hike Gorda Peak, visit the Baths, and a little shopping w/ lunch & drinks in Spanish Town. Anything else that is really special??

Oh MY B....you will have a great time. Biras is fantastic. We have toured the property. First, go to The Fat Virgin. It isn't owned by Biras but is on Biras's property. Esther is the owner. Best place for roti and conversation. We hiked Gorda and had a great time. Bring water! Try to hit the Baths away from the day trippers. Try to go early in the morning (before 11am.) Also, the beach next to the Baths, Spring Bay is a great beach to spend the day. Do rent a jeep so you will have some freedom to explore. How many days will you be there? WHat month? We will be there in August.

Just got back from a 1 week caribbean cruise. Went with family. With the ice / snow storm I returned to, and all the trees in my yard breaking off as I type - I should have stayed!

Hi D....yeah...did you get your flights into Tortola? We go to VG and fly through Tortola. We typically go to San Juan and fly into Tortola. The fares are so high right now.....You might want to add Virgin Gorda or Jost Van Dyke for the other week. LL has some great auctions at Bitter End and Biras. We will be in the area in August....

02-05-2012, 12:57 PMI have a friend who has been asking for recommendations on the best places to go in the Dominican Republic. Anyone have suggestions? It's hard to know which places are the most reputable and reliable. Someone suggested Tortuga Bay but it's pretty expensive. Any LL insider recs?

02-29-2012, 11:22 AMHello! We are travelling to Tortola in August and staying a week at Frenchman's. We did Virgin Gorda several years ago and loved it. Make sure you go to Savannah Bay, it's beautiful. Mountain Trunk beach was also a favorite, there was great snorkeling and we had it all to ourselves both times we visited. The Baths is wonderful, but I agree with the other poster about Spring Bay being better and less crowded. There's a great jumping rock at Spring Bay. We also spent a day at the Bitter End and enjoyed two snorkel trips with them. Saba Rock is not to be missed-their water taxi will come pick you up for free. I highly suggest renting a dinghy from Leverick Water Sports and discovering the North Sound on your own but book ahead of time because they were all rented when we got there. Virgin Gorda is spectacular!

Hi H...I second your wonderful post. We go every year to VG and never get bored. The location is fantastic for snorkeling, swimming, and just plain relaxing. We also enjoy tennis early in the morning as the sun comes up. We also like the relaxed nature of the island. Never many crowds!
