Re: Barbados - Where to stay ?
If your budget can stretch that far then it just has to be Sandy Lane. No-where in Barbados quite comes up to par with this resort. Failing that,I would perhaps opt for one of the hotels in the Elegant hotels Group. they have five hotels, four on the West Coast and one on the South Coast. The ones on the West Coast are Crystal Cove, Tamarind Cove, The House and Colony Club. Turtle Beach Resort is on the South coast, although the West coast is the most popular area with more luxury hotels. In my opinion, Crystal Cove and Colony Club are the nicest of the five. Just check out their website as that has all the info you need regarding all their hotels. Regarding what to do?..If you go on to the website Barbados.org, that has all the info you will need. Hope this helps!

Thank you Mary j, I thought that you might respond to this thread, from reading your other Caribbean posts. Sandy Lane looks amazing, it's always written up intravel publications. Have you ever stayed there and is it worth the $$$$ ? I don't know if I've ever seen it on LL but I am considering this place as a honeymoon destination as well, after hearing about it through some friends.

I would be curious to know how the Crane Beach Hotel is now. I spent a lot of time there years back. I loved it!! Anyone have input?

Re: Barbados - Where to stay ?
Unfortunately.I have never had the priveledge of staying at Sandy Lane. Maybe one day! There are lots of lovely hotels in Barbados, although Barbados itself is a bit pricier than other Caribbean destinations. I know it is very popular with A-list celebs from the UK.

Hi Kyshel,
From the research I've done already, it looks like The Crane has just undergone a total renovation, which is expected to last until 2009.
When it is complete, I think it will be awesome from what I've read !

Enewseven - You are amazing - are you a computer whiz or what??? great information.
Barbados is a favorite destination of ours. We would suggest the Fairmont Hotels GLITTER BAY and their adjoining property(sorry I can't recall the name)if your budget allows. Don't miss swimming with the sea turtles or snorkeling over a shipwreck -these trips and all water sports are included at Glitter Bay - including Hobie Cat sailing! Great fun! You can use facilities and restaurants etc at both hotels during your stay. Harrisons cave was a wonderful experience and a delight to be in the cool cave after too much sun. A tram takes you through the huge cave with frequent stops so that you can get out for a closer look and/or strech when desired. Sea Flower cave is not really a cave, as much as a rock breakthrough, on the rough side of the island - interesting though since it's name comes from the sea anemones that thrive inside. We loved seeing Green Monkeys every morning and afternoon on the property. Really! Green Monkeys were not our imagination or caused bythe fabulous island Rum!Fisherman's Pub and Braddy's Bar were local, inexpensivefavorites in town that we enjoyed. Have Fun and Happy Honeymoon. ...Funtimes

Re: Barbados - Where to stay ?
Hi Funtimes,
Barbados sounds awesome, I'm seriously considering this as our honeymoon destination. My fiancee put me in charge of one thing only for our wedding and that was to plan the honeymoon
so I don't want to choose wrong. I have been reading a lot about the ever so expensive Sandy Lane and love what I've read so far. I think it may be worth booking there for. From your description it seem that there is a lot to do on the island for a week so that's a big plus as well. Do you recommend renting a car or is it easy to get a round without one ?
BTW- I'm far from being a computer whiz, what you see took me some time to learn LOL

Re: Barbados - Where to stay ?
Hi E - Hey I remembered both property names Hurray! Fairmont Glitter Bay and Royal Pavillion - They are right next to each other and you can use amenities at both. Barbados is GREAT!!! There are loads of things to do...also old sugar plantation tours some with addmission - still filled with antiques - some just ruins. Loads of history, wildlife , gorgeous beaches, interesting markets, reggae&soca musicand RUM. Yes you will need a car. Most resort hotels can bring a car to you -get air conditioning -a Barbados drivers lisence is needed and will be available for a nominal fee at the time of car rental. You will need a car at least one third of the time you are there - other days can be spent on free water sports and relaxing - long walks on the beach or shopping (within walking distance). These resorts even bring you frozen washcloths while you are sunbathing - to cool off! I've never been so pampered. Flowers there are amazing too ginger lilly, mongoose tail plant , frangiapani&banana trees etc the botanic garden is worth the admission - I learned alot. I always noticed tropical plants in our island travels but the Barbados botanic garden helped me to identify them now. All water sports - motor boat snorkel trips, sailing etc are free at Glitter Bay and Royal Pavillion - go to beach side sign up asap everyday. Swimming with sea turtle everyday is incredible! Each resort has a managers cocktail party once a week and you can attend both. Private balconies at Glitter Bay are spacious andALL have garden and ocean views. The management there is incredible - if you decide to go email me and I'll send you names I'm still in touch with one manager in particular. How nice to be planning your honeymoon - whatever you decide I'm sure it will be the time of your life. ...Funtimes

Re: Barbados - Where to stay ?
Speaking of Barbados, has anyone stayed at Little Good Harbour, which is often offered on LuxuryLink? The cottages look so cute and the 2 bedroom ones with kitchen would be a great option for families. Would love to hear feedback if anyone has been.
